The opening seven rounds of the QAFL and QAFLW season are in the books as we reveal our next instalment of who the senior coaches have highlighted as their side’s ‘greatest ball winner’.
Each week, we will reveal which player from each team stood out across the pre-season and through the opening rounds, with the best ball user and most x-factor to be uncovered in the coming weeks.

Week 6: Greatest ball winner
QAFL
Aspley, Daniel Webster: Tom Templeton and Jordan Hayden
Broadbeach, Craig O’Brien: Max Lower
Labrador, Clint Watts: Tom Simpson
Maroochydore, Ben Jones: Josh Wagner, a name that’s hard to go past. Seems to have the ball all the time and it’s a matter of if he wants it, he’ll go and get it.
Morningside, Paul Egan: Darcy Cameron-Reeves
Noosa, Chris Rourke: Aaron Laskey, is a menace on the field and around the ruck and provides safe but positive options for his side.
Redland Victoria Point, Phil Carse: Caleb Franks
Sherwood, Jarad Marsh: Will Fletcher
Surfers Paradise, Matt Lappin: Jamie Rekers and Harrison Fraser
QAFLW
Aspley Hornets, Luke Glacken: Lucy Thompson, despite playing down back, Thompson is unsuspecting in the amount of times she gets her hands on the footy and consistently hovers around that 20-30 touches per game mark.
Bond University, Andy Lovell: Courtney Sexton
Coorparoo Kings, Rebecca Randazzo: Sally Young
Maroochydore, Dave Hume: Sara-Jane O‘Grady, The Roos 2023 vice-captain has already been labelled as a player to watch with her constant pressure and presence around the footy.
Southport Sharks, Peter Doherty: Poppy Boltz
UQ, Ross Clayfield: Ava Seton
Wilston Grange, Brenton Meddings: Annabel Pettigrew, rolls through the middle very well and when she gets her hands on the footy she‘s tough to stop.
Yeronga, Lisa Milne: Madie Satyasiv
