REPLAYS: Day 1 of Premier Invitational football tournament

She hasn’t quite perfected Sam Kerr’s trademark backflip celebration, but Akira Booth is otherwise on the fast-track to following in the footsteps of her Matildas idol.

Akira, 12, is one of hundreds of young football talents readying to prove their wares on the big stage at the annual Premier Invitational football tournament beginning on the Gold Coast on Friday.

So talented is the Magic United prodigy that she will play for both the U12 Girls and U12 Boys Magic United teams over the two weekends of competition, spanning six match days and 156 games.

News Corp subscribers will be able to livetream more than 150 matches of the Premier Invitational on The Gold Coast Bulletin and Courier-Mail websites, which runs over two weekends: September 24-26 and October 1-3.

“Akira could play for the Matildas one day if she stays on the correct path and with the correct guidance,” The Magic Group General Manager and Premier Invitational co-ordinator Andrew Robinson told News Corp.

The young striker will line up for the first time at a Premier Invitational tournament on Friday and should be one of the favourites for Golden Boot honours as the leading scorer, in the mould of Matildas star Kerr.

“I like her celebrations,” Akira said of why Kerr was her favourite player.

Akira’s Magic United U12s begin their assault on the Premier Invitational on Friday afternoon at Gold Coast Knights.
