NEWS Corp will bring its subscribers more than 150 grassroots football fixtures over two jam-packed weekends beginning Friday, September 24.
The Gold Coast Bulletin and Courier-Mail will stream games lives simultaneously from Magic United FC, Merrimac FC, Gold Coast Knights FC and Nerang Soccer Club over the weekends of September 24-26 and October 1-3 when the Premier Invitational football tournament kicks-off on the Gold Coast.
The Premier Invitational began in 2012 as the brainchild of Magic United TFA with the goal of bringing junior players together for a festival of football on the Gold Coast.
In total, 156 games will be streamed live from 8.30am to 5.45pm over six full days of competition.
“This is a fantastic result for not only friends and families of the players competing at the Premier Invitational, but also football and sport enthusiasts,” The Magic Group general manager, Andrew Robinson, said.
“We have 170 teams from Queensland and sadly 50 teams from other states in Australia have had to cancel due to border closures. We have previously had teams from USA, New Zealand and Asia participate in the tournament and we look forward to welcoming our friends back when the International borders open.
“The tournament is sponsored by Tourism Events Queensland and Major Events Gold Coast. We are delighted to showcase the Gold Coast which is positioning itself as a Sports Hub for International and Professional teams.
“These tournaments feature the best football talent in their respective age groups and it is fantastic News Corp has shown genuine interest and investment in showing football through their digital channels. In particular, the girls game is rapidly expanding and we will have 28 teams participating. With the Women’s World Cup coming up in 2023 we are sure these team numbers will continue to grow.
“News Corp’s commitment will expose football to a whole new audience and also generate more stories and coverage of the sport to more people.
“We thank News Corp for making the Premier Invitational accessible to people and households across Australia and for their dedication to stream football and tell stories about the people and the sport.”
