REPLAY: Div 1 – Brisbane Capitals def Logan Thunder 114-71

The Brisbane Capitals have produced a dominant second half to run away with a 43-point victory over the Logan Thunder and keep their undefeated start to the tournament alive.

Surprisingly, the match was evenly poised at halftime with the Thunder giving the Capitals their best shot as Brisbane only held a slender three-point advantage at the main break.

But several costly turnovers from the Thunder along with a shooting clinic from Capitals guard Charles Hinson allowed Brisbane to jump out to a double-digit lead to start the third quarter and they never looked back from there.

Logan were unable to match the Capitals intensity in the second half despite the efforts of Ash McGrath (21 points) and Joseph Baker (20 points).

Matthew Amoamo was the leading scorer for the Capitals with 22 points while Hinson had 21 and four other players also scored in double figures for Brisbane.

REPLAY: Div 1 – RedCity Roar def NGC Seahawks 100-89

RedCity have overcome a second-half fightback from the North Gold Coast Seahawks to remain undefeated in Pool A of the Division 1 tournament.

The Roar and Seahawks came into the clash after very different starts to the tournament with RedCity recording two convincing victories on day one while North Gold Coast were looking for their first win after stepping up from Division 2 for the state championships.

But the first half was all RedCity as the team, who made it all the way to the grand finals of the SQJBC competition, seemed a class above, leading by as much as 20 points early in the game.

But the Seahawks continued to fight and even reduced the deficit to single digits in the second half but the Roar were able to hold strong to make it three wins from three games at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre while the Seahawks were still searching for their first win.

REPLAY: Div 2 – Ipswich Force def Hervey Bay Hurricanes 115-49

Ipswich have booked their spot in tomorrow’s Division 2 semi-final after a 66-point demolition of the Hervey Bay Hurricanes in the quarterfinal.

The Force were dominant from the opening tip, showing their quality across the board early on to gain a convincing lead in the first quarter and from there, Ipswich continued to improve throughout the contest.

Hervey Bay continued to battle their way through the game but were just no match for the Force, who look like on of the favourites to take out the gold medal.

Lans Hinrich Lagdamen led the scoring for Ipswich with 19 points, followed by Tristan Afamasaga with 18 and Joshua Affleck with 17.

Jack Bell (11 points) and Larry Smith (10 points) both reached double figures for Hervey Bay.

Replay: Basketball Queensland Under-16 State Championships – Logan Thunder vs Mackay Meteors (Div 1)

REPLAY: Div 1 – Logan Thunder def Mackay Meteors 102-58

A 37-point haul from guard Ashley McGrath has helped the Logan Thunder record its first win of the tournament after a 44-point victory over Mackay to end day two.

Both teams went into the match winless and on the back of a few big losses but it was the Thunder, who seemed the more desparate side, running out to an early lead in the first quarter.

Logan were able to build on that advantage before the halftime break as McGrath tore apart the Mackay defence, especially in transition while his teammates in Adam Benscik (15 points), Joseph Baker (11 points) and Alexander Pare (10 points) also putting in impressive performances.

The Thunder continued to dominate in the second half and the Meteors couldn’t get going on both ends of the floor as Logan went on to get the result.

Eligh Kingston had 13 points for Mackay.

REPLAY: Div 1 – GC Rollers def Cairns Marlins 82-68

The gold medal favourite Gold Coast Rollers have managed to overcome an impressive performance from the Cairns Marlins to stay at the top of Pool A heading into day three of the state championships.

Cairns gave the Rollers all they had, staying within striking distance for most of the game before Gold Coast secured the result late in the fourth quarter.

The result means Gold Coast are undefeated in Pool A along with SQJBC grand final opponents, the RedCity Roar, with the two teams to square off for top spot on Saturday morning.

Indy Cotton continued his impressive form with 24 points while Sam Scott also had 19 for the Rollers.

Benjamin Accoom led the scoring for Cairns with 21 points while Noah Kirk (16 points) and Sean O’Reilly (14 points) also reached double figures.
