Godolphin maestro James Cummings has confirmed crack colt Traffic Warden will run in their slot for the $20m The TAB Everest.

Cummings said Traffic Warden has done everything right since his close second to stablemate Broadsiding in the Group 1 Golden Rose and deserves a start in the world’s richest turf race, run at Royal Randwick on October 19.

“He’s come through his most recent run brilliantly, and third-up he will be ready to peak Everest day,’’ Cummings said.

Godolphin Australia’s supremo Andy Makiv said Traffic Warden has shown in his two runs this spring – winning the Group 2 Run To The Rose before his Golden Rose second placing – that he is in top form going into The Everest.

“We are thrilled to have Traffic Warden representing Godolphin in The Everest,’’ Makiv said.

“He is an outstanding three-year-old colt by one of our best stallions in Street Boss and he highlights the incredible efforts of our people, from the office teams, to the farms and the racing stables.”

Godolphin has secured champion Melbourne jockey Jamie Kah to ride Traffic Warden who will carry 53kg in The Everest.

Traffic Warden is the third three-year-old to be selected for The Everest after Lady Of Camelot and Storm Boy.

The Godolphin colt’s Everest inclusion brings the number of confirmed starters to 11, leaving only Yulong with a vacant slot.

Godolphin hasn’t won an Everest but has gone close with Bivouac, runner-up to Classique Legend in 2020 and minor placings with Trekking behind Yes Yes Yes in 2019 and Osborne Bulls when Redzel won in 2018.

Meanwhile, Cummings will travel to Adelaide for the Horse of the Year awards on Tuesday night where Broadsiding is in contention for Champion Two-Year-Old honours after his Group 1 wins in the Champagne Stakes and JJ Atkins last season.

Broadsiding won a third major when he made his three-year-old debut in the Golden Rose and is a hot favourite at $1.60 to win a fourth Group 1 in the $3m Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Cummings said although Broadsiding has never raced the reverse way of going his brilliant colt has had experience galloping in that direction at the trainer’s private training complex at Agnes Banks.

At Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, Cummings has Pericles lining up in the Group 2 $2m Hill Stakes (1900m) and Snack Bar in the Listed $500,000 Tapp-Craig (1400m).
