He works in demolition by day, trains at night to be a chef and on the weekend is ripping it up for his club as one of Sydney Rugby Union 1st Colts top scorers.
Hardworking teenager Kamisese Tuqalo started the season with a bang - scoring three tries in the opening round of the competition and then added another to his tally for Sydney Uni in round two.
In round three he scored again to be leading the 1st Colts try scorers ladder with Nick Swain, Hamish MacDonald and Charlie Foster with five tries from three games.
Born in Fiji and playing his junior rugby in Suva before moving to Australia with his family, he has played in Sydney Juniors rugby teams and with the NSW boys outfit at past Australian schools rugby championships.
“I played at West Harbour with Colts in 2022 and then joined Sydney University in 2023 in seconds,’’ said Tuqalo, who lives at Guildford, said.
“Then I moved up to firsts in 2024 but I didn’t play finals because I was injured with a hamstring.”
Tuqalo said his goal is to play for the Waratahs and in an Australian jersey in the future with his aim off the field to work in a restaurant at The Rocks in Sydney and one day open his own establishment.
“I’m training to be a chef at Surrey Hills,’’ said the 18-year-old.
“My dad is a chef as well and I started playing around in the kitchen when I was a kid.’’
The youngster said he loves to prepare seafood and cook Fijian specialities.
“I only have one night for chef training so I have time for football,’’ he said.
“Then I working in demolition in the city labouring.
“It’s pretty fun and it keeps me fit and strong.
“I eat too much of my own food.’’
