RILEY Dealy brandishes the face of an AFL star on her playing kit each week but Australian Rules look to have lost the rising young gun to cricket.
Dealy has emerged as a potential Aussie Ashes player of the future following a blistering knock for Helensvale under 13’s in the opening round of Gold Coast Cricket competition.
The 13-year-old smashed a massive 149 not out from 96 balls to help her side defeat Mudgeeraba, all while wearing her favourite AFL player on her feet.
Dealy said I knew I could do it.
“My highest score was 77 and I was just thinking about how I could get passed that and to a hundred,” Dealy said.
“I knew I could make a hundred, I was really worried but then everyone said I could do it really easily.
“I have these Matty Rowell socks that I wear every single game and I am now making these all these runs so I will be wearing them every single game now.
“Playing against all the boys was a lot of fun, they all came up to me and said well done in at the end.
“Their coach told them that the first one that gets Riley out gets a chocolate but no one got one.”
The 13-year-old had never played cricket until 2020 when AFL had shut down due to the covid crisis.
From there, the young right hander has continued to take her game to the next level, playing for the Gold Coast Dolphins.
In June this year, Riley was co-captain of the Queensland Under 14’s Girls Indoor Cricket team, leading the team to an undefeated tournament.
Riley’s mum, Lisa Bibby said she isn’t sure where she got her cricket skills from but it wasn’t her.
”Super proud of her, I have never played cricket so she definitely didn’t get the skills from me,” Bibby said.
“She was excellent, she loves her cricket.
“It was interesting because it wasn’t a sport she ever really paid attention to until 2020 when she was looking for a new sport because footy shut down.
“I definitely think that cricket is her number one sport now, that is what she will chase from now on.”
Dealy smashed 20 fours and three sixes in her 96 ball innings, carrying her bat from ball one to the final wicket.
She is now looking at potentially changing her favourite sport from AFL to cricket in hopes of one day playing in the green and gold and claiming an Ashes series.
“Yeah Green and Gold, I am done with footy now,” Dealy said.
“Ellyse Perry is my favourite player.
“It is pretty fun just batting, I enjoyed batting, bowling and fielding when I first started.
“But I hate it when people hit runs off me.”
Gold Coast cricket round two is done and dusted, with seven more players joining the list of century-scorers this season.

Riley Dealy – 149* (96)
Helensvale Pacific Pines Cricket Club v Mudgeeraba (Under 13 Division 2)
This 13 year old could not have asked for a better first innings in 2023.
Dealy was quick to reach 100 before going on to be just one run off the next milestone.
Her stats include 20 fours and three sixes.
An impressive knock, topped off by taking it to the all boys team in Mudgeeraba.
Matt McAuley – 80 (62)
Broadbeach Robina Cricket Club v Coomera Hope Island (Taper Community League Division 1)
McAuley was a sensation with the bat and ball in round two.
He scored 80 runs for his side in their 9-run win over Coomera Hope Island, with six fours and five sixes on the tally, but was even more impressive in his bowling performance.
McAuley took a total of four wickets, including one stumping and one run out.
He has so far only conceded 44 runs after two games, averaging 14.67.
Daniel Wheeler – 4/11 (6)
Queens 2nd Grade v Coomera Hope Island (Taper Premier League Division 2)
Wheeler was quiet in round one taking just a singular wicket, but upped his game in round two against Coomera Hope Island and added four to his season tally.
He bowled Coomera captain Jackson Armstrong out for 12, followed by vice-captain Jonti Kamo for 66 and Matt Casey straight after for 2.
Wheeler later took the final wicket, Lachlan Daniels for 17, leaving Coomera all out for 134.
Elijah Moore – 5/7 (4)
Palm Beach Currumbin v Bonogin (Under 11s South)
Moore was the leading wicket taker on the day, taking 5 for 7 in PBC’s 87 run win over Bonogin.
His efforts were backed by teammate Zac Hawkins (below).
Zac Hawkins – 4/0 (1)
Palm Beach Currumbin v Bonogin (Under 11s South)
Hawkins was second in the wicket tally with 4 for 0 to his name after 20 overs.
He was the only player to concede zero runs on the day, a tremendous effort for any cricketer but even more impressive for an 11-year-old.
