GOLD Coast United coach Alex Bundalo has labelled his sides 2020 National Premier League title triumph a victory for “the Gold Coast” and predicts a female football boom in light of their unrivalled season.
The Surfsiders wrapped up the title on Saturday night with a 3-1 win at home against the Football Queensland QAS side and will now turn their attention to a potential double with finals looming.

Three years after joining the National Premier League, the girls delivered United’s first piece of senior silverware following a fearsome 17 win, one draw and two loss record.
Bundalo said it was an incredible feat after nearly 40 of his players were stuck across the border at the height of COVID-19 before competition resumed and United lost three players to season-ending injuries.
“We’ve allowed the girls to celebrate because some girls might never achieve this again whereas some girls might go onto greater heights but from a club perspective, the best thing for our club and our players is to try and win the double,” he said.
“Finals are completely different and it’s going to be very difficult to do that because if you’ve got injuries or if you’re slightly off, you might not perform at your peak.
“Our major objective was to win the title and it’s a victory for female sport and female football on the Gold Coast.”
Bundalo said he knew his side were capable of winning the title following their dramatic come from behind win against South West Thunder in early November.
The match was a must-win to create a buffer between United and the second-placed Souths but United found themselves 3-2 down with only minutes to play before scoring twice in the dying seconds to win 4-3.
“I drove home that night thinking we could win the whole thing,” Bundalo said.
“They don’t give up until the final whistle sounds.”
Meanwhile, in NPL action, the Gold Coast Knights booked their finals spot with an impressive 5-1 win over Capalaba.
