Gold Coast batsman Max Bryant in line for Sheffield Shield debut next week as Liam Hope-Shackley earns QAS nod

Gold Coast young gun Max Bryant is in line to make his first-class debut for Queensland in next week’s Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria, while a Dolphins teammate will also make the step into the representative ranks.

The 20-year-old opener, a regular in Queensland’s one-day side and the Brisbane Heat BBL line-up over the past two seasons, was today named in a 12-man Bulls that also includes fast-bowling Dolphins teammate Xavier Bartlett.

Bryant is coming off a ton for the Cricket Australia XI in a one-day game against England Lions earlier this month, while he has hit three first-grade centuries for the Dolphins this season.

It is a depleted Bulls team, with Usman Khawaja, Michael Neser, Mitch Swepson, Jack Wildermuth and Mark Steketee will be absent due to their seabsent on Australia A duties and Marnus Labuschagne in South Africa with the national one-day side.

The Bulls sit second heading into the game, which runs from Monday-Thursday, after thrashing Tasmania last week.

The Shield battle will coincide with a Toyota 2nd XI game at Allan Border Field, with Dolphins captain Matt Kuhnemann chosen alongside debutant all-rounder Liam Hope-Shackley.

The 26-year-old has this season scored 771 runs at 55.07, including four centuries, to go with 28 wickets at 20.29.
