SuperCoach BBL players are making a massive mistake this season.

But thankfully, telling people they are wrong is one of my favourite things to do so here goes with the one simple error being made by the masses.

The top rule of SuperCoach BBL is to chase the schedule, yet the majority of SuperCoaches appear to have forgotten this.

In particular, Brisbane Heat are by far the most valuable team in SuperCoach round one because they play THREE times.

This is the first time ever in SuperCoach BBL history that a team has played three times in a round so it’s important to cash in.

Yet no Heat player sits in the top five most popular players for SuperCoach BBL.

In-form Michael Neser is the most popular Heat player at sixth but he has been rued out of the first round of SuperCoach BBL due to the Prime Minister’s XI game and is therefore an urgent sell.

In all, I’ve picked four Heat players. It’s important to go hard on the Banana Benders but five is the maximum given they have the bye in round three and will need to be traded out by then.

Wicketkeepers

Sam Billings (Brisbane Heat) $116,900 WKP/BAT

Ben McDermott (Hobart Hurricanes) $88,000 WKP/BAT

McDermott is the cheapie of the season for me even though his early schedule is not as favourable as some. With Jimmy Pierson unavailable, Englishman Billings should bat high for the Heat and also keep wickets. Law of averages says he should produce big points over the opening two rounds given he plays a massive four games.

Batters

Tom Curran (Sydney Sixers) $180,000 BAT/BWL

Colin Munro (Brisbane Heat) $156,100 BAT

Quinton de Kock (Renegades) $180,100 BAT/WKP

Marcus Stoinis (Melbourne Stars) $116,700 BAT/BWL

Josh Philippe (Sydney Sixers) $102,700 WKP/BAT

Jake Fraser-McGurk (Melbourne Renegades) $62,500 BAT

D’Arcy Short (Adelaide Strikers) $67,500 BAT

Strong on Heat again with Munro to bat high. Stoinis is well-underpriced compared to his previous BBL output and has the double in round one (although I’m worried about the bye in round two). Hopefully he’s both batting and bowling. The Sixers have a great schedule - double in round one and no bye - so Curran and Philippe are close to must-haves. Jake Fraser-McGurk is coming off a hundred in 29 balls yet starts close to bottom dollar, while D’Arcy Short is at a new club and outrageously cheap compared previous seasons.

Rinse and repeat from above on the Sixers’ great schedule, with Abbott and Dwarshuis both very tempting. I’ve gone with the extremely popular Glenn Maxwell after his heroics in India. He has the double in round one but I don’t think he’s the slam dunk many are hoping for given he has the bye in round two. The Heat spin combo of Matt Kuhnemann and Mitchell Swepson are underpriced given their great schedule, but I’ll have an eye on their team for the opening match to see if they fit both in. Tanveer Sangha is one of the best spinners in Australian cricket and is currently representing Australia in India. But he starts at cheapie price following an injury-ruined season.
