KFC SuperCoach BBL: The best trade options and advice for Rounds 11-13

Round 12 of KFC SuperCoach is a crucial one – and it starts early on Friday morning. Here are some of the best trade options, including a few flying under-the-radar.

Another day, another BBL11 fixture change.

But, armed with five trades per round, it means opportunity for KFC SuperCoaches.

Hobart and the Renegades will now have a bye in Round 12, which starts at 10.40am (AEDT) on Friday and will only feature four matches, with the Strikers and Stars still playing twice.

The latest changes have also produced a bumper final round with four teams - Heat, Sixers, Hurricanes and Renegades - finishing the year with a double-game round.

As Round 11 showed, with a number of poor performances from popular players, a complete double-game round approach isn’t always the way to go.

So, what is?

It definitely won’t be one that features Rashid Khan (Strikers), Haris Rauf (Stars) and Qais Ahmad (Stars), who have all played their final BBL games this summer.

Here are some of the top trade targets to consider.

THE DOUBLE

Joe Clarke (Stars) $186,800 WKP-BAT

It’s a similar story with Stars targets again in Round 12, despite some failures in the first of the back-to-back doubles.

The Englishman made it four consecutive BBL half-centuries in Round 10, recording a season-high 123 KFC SuperCoach points against the Strikers. Clarke clubbed 83 of 58 balls – and stumped Ryan Gibson off the bowling of Qais Ahmad – to lead the Stars to victory. But he was given a rest the following day in the Stars’ first game of the Round 11 double, meaning there could even be a price drop for those KFC SuperCoaches who haven’t already jumped on. Don’t expect Beau Webster to open the batting in his place again.

Glenn Maxwell (Stars) $141,600 BAT-BWL

Apart from the 237-point score in the Round 3 double, on the back of a 57-ball century, Maxwell has not had a great KFC SuperCoach summer. But it made an unbeaten 65 to guide his side to victory on Thursday night in a welcome return to form. The Stars play a Strikers outfit without Khan in Round 12 and Maxwell averages 72.6 KFC SuperCoach points against them in his past five matches. Is a monster score coming? He’ll get another two chances.

Nathan Coulter-Nile (Stars) $134,900 BWL

Looking for a point-of-difference? A fit Coulter-Nile could be the man. He was back in the Stars’ squad for the Melbourne Derby against the Renegades but was left ouf of the final line-up to ensure he’s overcome a hamstring strain.. But if he’s ready to go on Saturday morning - and the Stars need him with the depature of Rauf - consider the quick who took seven wickets in his final three IPL games in October, and has claimed six scalps in an interrupted BBL campaign so far.

Adam Zampa (Stars) $119,300 BWL

Zampa hasn’t ruled out walking away from the BBL so this selection could really backfire. But he took 2/24, on his way to a season-high 63 KFC SuperCoach points in Round 10, before taking 1/34 and 2/18, to finish with 96 points, in the Round 11 double.

Marcus Stoinis (Stars) $81,900 BAT-BWL

Another game, another glimpse of Marcus Stoinis in the extended squad. If he’s overcome a back injury, he’s the perfect money-making trade in Round 12.

Peter Siddle (Strikers) $184,800 BWL

Thankfully for non-owners ahead of the double-game round, the Strikers skipper finished with just 37 points against the Heat, meaning there will be no big price rise, despite a low breakeven. He’ll still be priced at more than $180k, but, after taking 14 wickets in his previous six matches and always bowling at the depth, he’s still one of the top trade targets.

Matt Short (Strikers) $171,900 BAT

Short was the support act to Rashid Khan in Round 11, but a very impressive one at that. As he’s done on a number of occasions this summer, Short opened the batting and bowling for the Strikers. He took 2/13 off three overs after making a quick-fire 27 with the bat. He’ll be priced in excess of $170k for the double, but going without him could hurt you.

Jake Weatherald (Strikers) $57,300 BAT

We all know how important form is in KFC SuperCoach, but if you’re in need of a bit of a hail mary play, Weatherald could be the one to consider. He’s struggled for runs this summer and has been moved all around the order - batting at three different spots in his past three innings. But he’s batted at No. 3 in the past two, hitting 35 of 31 against the Heat on Wednesday night. He’s gone big in previous tournaments, can he do it in Round 12?

WITH AN EYE ON ROUND 13

Sean Abbott (Sixers) $260,900 BWL

The star Sixer’s price will remain steady after another 75 points in Round 11. But with a likely breakeven of 130, it could drop before the final-round double. There is never a bad time to trade in the leading wicket-taker in BBL history, and the highest-averaging KFC SuperCoach scorer to have played more than five games this summer. But he could be cheaper next round.

Ben Dwarshuis (Sixers) $167,400 BWL

But, after a five-wicket haul and 132 KFC SuperCoach points in Round 10, his teammate Dwarshuis is unlikely to be. He’ll only enjoy a small price rise ahead of Round 12, thanks to a 107-point breakeven, but that figure will reduce significantly for the game against the Thunder on Saturday night.

Fakhar Zaman (Heat) $114,800 BAT

The Pakistan international is back in the Brisbane line-up for Round 12 and, despite failing in his first BBL start, could explode at any minute. Zaman blasted an unbeaten half-century in the T20 World Cup semi-final against Australia and is very much a risk-reward option in a single-game round.

Mark Steketee (Heat) $204,800 BWL

The fifth-ranked KFC SuperCoach scorer by average is likely to be available for this weekend’s fixture after recovering from Covid. His price should remain steady but he will face an inconsistent Stars batting line up in Round 12.

Daniel Sams (Thunder) $196,600 BAT-BWL

Mitch Marsh aside, Sams, at his best, is, arguably, the BBL’s most destructive allrounder. He’s the sixth-highest wicket taker this summer and he’s found form with the bat after a rise up the order. Batting at No. 4 against the Renegades, Sams smacked eight sixes on his way to 98 of 44 balls. There’s no double to come for the Thunder but, with Sams, it doesn’t matter.
