SUNS midfielder Touk Miller has pleaded for patience as AFL personalities continue to call for the club’s head amid league-wide financial hardship.
Speaking on Footy Classified last month, former Fremantle coach Ross Lyon suggested culling the Suns would help the AFL navigate the financial challenges of the COVID-19 crisis.
CARPARK KICK FROM SKILLFUL SUN
Gold Coast Suns chairman Tony Cochrane was quick to refute Lyon’s comments and highlighted the exponential growth of AFL in Queensland since the Suns have entered the league.
Miller, who is coming up to six years of living on the Gold Coast after being drafted out of Melbourne, said that the club was his “home” and the AFL community needed to be patient with the 10-year-old franchise.
“I absolutely love this club,” Miller said.
“They’re really respected names talking about your club.
“A lot of people try to write us off.
“Even with GWS early in their piece as well, they got written off quite a lot.
“You look at clubs over the course of 100 years and where they’ve come from and where their success period has been, people have to understand it’s going to be a slow build.”
HOW EUROPE CHANGED DEW’S COACHING
The 24-year-old was adamant that the club is still tracking in the right direction despite managing only three wins last season.
“They are comments from the outside that can hurt some but within the four walls, we’re really confident in what we’re doing,” he said.
“From our perspective, Queensland is thriving in football from both a women’s and men’s perspective so I can’t see why they wouldn’t pour the money in to make sure this club succeeds and works.
“We have a lot of opportunity, once we get up and going, that this club is going to be a real hub and people are going to want to play for the Suns.”
