SUNS academy player Josh Gore doesn’t have any representative football to show his wares to recruiters right now but this kick could be used as a handy audition.

At a time when professional sportsman are turning to trick challenges to keep themselves busy in isolation, Gore has shared a video of him kicking a goal from the car park of Gold Coast club Labrador Tigers.

“I have been doing a lot of training with (AFL listed Suns player) Connor Budarick because he lives nearby,” Gore said.

“We did a decent training session and thought we would finish it off with a bit of fun.

“We were trying to kick it from the boundary and I told him to film one of me from over the fence.

“I put it up there and let the ball do the work.

“Connor gave it a go on his left foot and he is pretty good on his opposite foot but he didn’t quite get it. I have always told him I’m better at kicking goals anyway.”

Gore, 18, was overlooked at last year’s national AFL draft in a setback to his dream of getting on to a list.

“Leading up to the draft it was up in the air still,” Gore said.

“I didn’t get a definite yes or no so I was a bit nervous going in and then I found out after I missed out in the rookie draft too.

“It took me one day to fully get over it and then the next day I was determined to put my best foot forward and go again.”

Gore trained with the Suns AFL squad in the pre-season and got himself in a space to gain the added versatility recruiters wanted from him by adding more midfield minutes to his game.

But the COVID-19 crisis that put football to a stop has put Gore in the dark as to how he will convince clubs like the Suns, where he is in the under-19 academy, he is worth signing.

“If there is a little season I’ll have to play my best in every game that is left because that is all we will have to show what we can do,” Gore said.

“Hopefully I can put my best foot forward if there is a season and if not we will have to see what happens.

“It is a bit frustrating but I can’t do anything about it.”
