They’ve thrilled footy fans and spectators with their marks, goals and tackles. But these stars of SA’s AFL clubs are also making a mark in the world of Instagram. Some are retired, others at the peak of their powers, others now playing for other clubs, but all offer behind-the-scenes

snaps in changerooms, or training inspo, or adorable family photos.

Meet the Top 20 Crows and Power players of Instagram.

1. Eddie Betts

Handle: @eddiebthe3rd Followers: 189k

Crows: 2014-2019, 132 games (350 career games/Carlton)

The former star Crows forward, is still heavily involved in footy post-retirement, working in commentary with Fox Footy and documenting some of the behind-the-scenes moments on his Instagram, which is also filled with adorable family snaps.

2. Abbey Holmes

Handle: @abbeycholmes Followers: 151k

Crows: 2017-2018, 11 games

A regular on the ‘gram, the television footy commentator and inaugural women’s Crow, posts photos from boundary-side on game days and from her travel adventures. Is often posting her fashion as well.

3. Ryan Fitzgerald

Handle: @fitzy18 Followers: 127k

Crows: 2002, 8 games (18 career games/Sydney)

The footballer-turned radio and television presenter, is a social media entertainer. His videos are sure to make you laugh and his Instagram has plenty, including one posted recently of him using a “filter” that makes the person look sadder the more they smile.

4. Taylor Walker

Handle: @texwalka13 Followers: 115k

Crows: 2009-present, 228 games

Family and friends are a key theme on the account of the former Crows captain, with adorable snaps of his sons a delightful feature as well as his family’s travels across Australia.

5. Rory Sloane

Handle: @rorysloane Followers: 110k

Crows: 2009-present, 233 games

The Crows captain is often posting pictures of his adventures as a father, but also uses social media to update fans on his footy life. When Sloane tore his anterior cruciate ligament in April, he took to Instagram to let his followers know that he was not finished yet: “To be continued….” he posted, alongside a photo of him recovering in hospital from knee surgery.

6. Chad Wingard

Handle: @chadwingard Followers: 73.9k

Power: 2012-2018, 147 games (203 career games/Hawthorn)

The former Power midfielder has an astronomical number of followers – almost 74,000 – but his account is private, so if you want an insight into his Instagram, you’ll have to request to follow him.

7. Erin Phillips

Handle: @erinphillips131 Followers: 68.8k

Crows: 2017-2022, 46 games/Power: 2022-present

Arguably the greatest AFLW player to date has a very active Instagram account, posting photos of her family, of herself in training mode and of her life as a breakfast presenter on Mix102.3. When the Olympian left the Crows to head to cross-town rivals, Port, in April she posted on her account: “Four Grand Finals and three Premierships, but most importantly, so many lifelong friendships I’ll always cherish. Forever proud to have been a part of this club.”

8. Travis Boak

Handle: @travisboak10 Followers: 68.7k

Power: 2007-present, 317 games

The Power’s all-time leading games player. Documents the many interests in his life on his social media, including the tough lengths he goes to in training to stay on top of the game. He’s even posted a hilarious photo of himself having a recovery ice-bath at home, with a rubber duckie for company.

9. Charlie Cameron

Handle: @charliecameron23 Followers: 56.5k

Crows: 2014-2017, 73 games (163 career games/Brisbane)

The Crows-turned-Brisbane forward posts photos of his life away from footy, as much as on the field, recently sharing stunning snaps of a summer holiday to Uluru. When celebrating the Sir Doug Nicholls Round in the AFL a week ago, Cameron posted photos of him with his indigenous teammates saying: “Can’t wait to represent my people today. Special round that I can share with my other indigneous brothers.”

10. Bryce Gibbs

Handle: @bgibbsy4 Followers: 52.8k

Crows: 2018-2020, 37 games (268 career games/Carlton)

He might be the reigning joint Magarey Medallist as the fairest and best SANFL player, but Gibbs is also forging a media career way from the field. His Instagram account shows behind-the-scenes snaps of his “Saturdays in SA” SEN radio show. He also posts celebrating wins with South Adelaide in the SANFL as well as adorable snaps of his family life.

11. Ollie Wines

Handle: @olliewines Followers: 48.6k

Power: 2013-present, 192 games

The reigning Brownlow medallist gives followers a peek into his life from posting photos taken inside the Power rooms after a win, to trips to wineries with his teammates. Wines comes from a close-knit family in regional Victoria and he posts photos of fun times with them in and around the River Murray too.

12. Robbie Gray

Handle: @robbiegray_9 Followers: 46k

Power: 2007-present, 263 games

Albeit not a regular poster, the Power’s star forward’s Instagram account is filled with insights into his family life away from the footy field, with photos ranging from adorable Christmas snaps to family outings.

13. Charlie Dixon

Handle: @charlie_dixon Followers: 38.1k

Power: 2016-present, 113 games (178 career games/Gold Coast)

It’s not just kicking goals that Charlie Dixon’s into – cars are another passion and his Insta account regularly has “stories” of “Drivin’ with Dixon”. Another passion is his home in the Adelaide Hills and earlier this week, he posted a video of himself working on his property – collecting fire wood, drinking rain water from the gauge and wandering the sprawling landscape with his dogs.

14. Brodie Smith

Handle: @brodiesmith Followers: 35.9k

Crows: 2011-present, 215 games

The Crows veteran uses his account to post photos of his life away from the footy field, as well as his career on it. In April, he posted a series of pics celebrating Adelaide’s thrilling, after-the-siren, four-point win over Port Adelaide in Showdown 51. “Special special night” he wrote.

15. Jarman Impey

Handle: @jarmanimpey Followers: 35k

Power: 2014-2017, 75 games (143 career games/Hawthorn)

Footy, kids and hobbies – Impey’s account is a snapshot of his life. He also uses the platform in his role as an ambassador for The Line – an organisation aimed at positive messaging for young men aged 14 years and over. Three weeks ago he posted a video of himself talking about the advice he gives young men who are experiencing pressure to fit in. “You don’t have to act a certain way to fit in, be yourself”, he wrote.

16. Aliir Aliir

Handle: @aliirmaymom Followers: 33.7k

Power: 2021-present, 32 games (96 career games/Sydney)

Port’s star tall defender’s account is heavily football influenced, with Aliir posting snaps from Power training, or of him hanging out and having a laugh with teammates. But six weeks ago he posted a series of adorable pics of a puppy – presumably his own – called Rico.

17. Shaun Burgoyne

Handle: @shaunburgoyne9 Followers: 33.1k

Power: 2002-2009, 157 games (407 career games/Hawthorn)

The four-time AFL premiership winner returned home to Adelaide after retiring from playing last year to take up an off-field role at his original club. He posts photos of his young family and tributes to former teammates and memories of his playing days. In January, he posted a photo celebrating the freeing of the Aboriginal flag from copyright restrictions.

18. Hamish Hartlett

Handle: @hharts8 Followers: 31.4k

Power: 2009-2021, 193 games

The newly appointed Port Adelaide AFLW assistant coach uses his Instagram account to post photos of his dogs, family, footy and travels. When he retired from footy last year, he posted a loving tribute to the club, the Power supporters saying: “I’ve been so fortunate to have fulfilled my childhood dream, and while the ride has been far from smooth, I’ve got memories both on field and off field that I’ll cherish forever.”

19. Sam Powell-Pepper

Handle: @sampowellpepper_ Followers: 29.6k

Power: 2017-present, 103 games

The Power midfielder is enjoying a resurgence in 2022, but his Instagram account lately has been more filled with family than footy. Powell-Pepper welcomed his first child, daughter Frankie Rose, in March and he shares updates with his followers about fatherhood. One week ago, he posted a photo of his daughter in a baby carrier on his chest as the young family headed off on their first holiday together.

20. Orazio Fantasia

Handle: @o.fantasia13 Followers: 28.8k

Power: 2021-present, 16 games (96 career games/Essendon)

The SA-born Power recruit has only 15 posts to his name on Instagram but has still managed to amass more than 28,000 followers. Over the past couple of months, he’s been promoting the new Port Adelaide podcast he does with former teammate Tom Rockliff, called the Rock and Raz Show.
