Don't miss out on the headlines from SuperCoach. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Think you’ve missed your chance to be part of SuperCoach this year? Think again.
Registrations are still open for Australia’s biggest fantasy game and it’s not too late to join the action and challenge your mates for ultimate footy bragging rights.
Claiming the $50,000 prize for the top SuperCoach at the end of the season will be a challenge but even that isn’t entirely impossible thanks to a Round 1 SuperCoach minefield.

THE PHANTOM: BEST CAPTAIN CHOICES FOR ROUND 2
By joining now you’ve avoided those headaches and have a week of actual AFL matches to base your selection decisions on. The team shown below comes in well under the $10 million salary cap and would have scored 2793 points last week — beating the top-ranked SuperCoach player by almost 400 points.
Of course that is purely hypothetical and all those players are unlikely to score as well together again, but there are thousands of coaches out there now wishing they had picked Nat Fyfe or Marcus Bontempelli, taken a punt on Hawk James Worpel or backed their instinct on Nic Newman.
CAN I STILL JOIN A LEAGUE?
Public and private leagues created during the pre-season were set at the end of Round 1, so if you sign up now you can’t join a league that already exists. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take on your mates.
For starters, you’ll automatically be entered into a league with others who joined this week, so you will be playing head-to-head matches each week (league matches start in Round 3 for 18-team leagues).
You can also join existing groups — click on the “GROUPS” tab on the Leagues page then hit “CREATE/JOIN GROUP” and type in the code — that rank everyone in the group on total points. Groups can be any size so you can start one for your friends or join bigger groups like the SuperCoaches Box Group to take on the hosts and listeners of the Herald Sun podcast — the code is 455738.
You can also create a rivalry with a friend (or rival) by searching for their team name in the main search bar, clicking on it to open their team and clicking “ADD RIVALRY”. Each week you can click on the Rivalries tab on the League page to see how all your rivals scored that round and track their overall ranking.
SELECTION TIPS
There are a lot of articles on the SuperCoach News page to help you pick a team — the five-minute team picker is a good place to start, listing the top options in each position (with the added bonus you can now see how they scored last week).
You’ll still need the best rookies to fill your bench — here’s a quick run-down of the top choices this year.
Note that player prices don’t change until after they have played three matches, so by getting in now you get the best bargains at the same price as everyone else did before seeing them play a game.
Many coaches have also started using their allocated 30 trades for the season and you’ll start with a fresh 30 in the bag from next week.
PRIZES
The top SuperCoach at the end of the home-and-away season wins $50,000 and there are cash prizes for the top 10 overall finishers, and for the top-three ranked teams every round.
If this team dominates again in Round 2 you could be $1000 richer by next Monday.
LOCKOUT
The Round 2 lockout starts when the ball is bounced for Collingwood v Richmond at 7.20pm (AEDT) on Thursday night. Make sure your players are picked by then and you have nominated a captain, vice-captain and emergencies on the bench in each position.
Welcome aboard, and good luck!
