SAM Day has become the second player to pledge their loyalty to the Gold Coast in as many days with the key forward declaring he has no plans on leaving the Suns.

Midfielder Touk Miller has revealed he is in talks to extend his contract beyond 2019 and Day said his manager is doing the same.

“My manager and the club are talking through things at the moment,” Day said.

“I’m a pretty straight forward guy and I’m not mucking around or playing any games.

“I’d definitely like to stay.”

Day and Miller’s public backing of Gold Coast follow the decisions of David Swallow and Jarrod Witts to re-sign until the end of 2024.

Swallow and Day remain the only two players left on the list from the club’s intial draft crop in 2011.

Gold Coast has been a revolving door of elite talent in recent years with co-captains Tom Lynch and Steven May joining the long list of the Suns best talent exiting the Queensland club at the end of last year.

It led to Dew and football manager Jon Haines seeking clarity from the rest of the playing group surrounding their desire to be at the Suns.

Jack Martin, Rory Thompson, Alex Sexton, Callum Ah Chee, Pearce Hanley, Peter Wright are among the other players at the Suns off contract at the end of 2019.

The obscurity that surrounded the positions of Lynch and May last year has been replaced by clarity from players who want to avoid any distractions while sending a clear message to their fans.

“My position hasn’t changed with the club,” Day said.

“My focus recently has been on returning from injury and making sure I get back to playing footy,” Day said.

“Coming back from the preseason and seeing the new guys we have come in and guys who have returned has been great. They are in good condition with plenty of energy and enthusiasm.

“All the new coaches have slotted in seamlessly.

“The feeling around the club, there are no distractions now. We are all pushing in the same direction so I’m really excited about.”
