THE Broadbeach Cats have been fined a total of $500 for breaching the AFL’s player payment policy (PPP).
The club attended a hearing with AFL Queensland on Wednesday night where they faced four charges on the back of a six-week investigation into potential payment breaches.
Broadbeach were found guilty of failing to complete a player declaration form that was submitted to the league.

The Cats were also reprimanded for failing to lodge a player declaration form on time and and failing to do it before Round 1 of the 2020 season.
The counsel acting for AFLQ recommended to the panel Broadbeach be fined $1000 for the first charge and $500 each for the third and fourth charges respectively but it was not accepted by the panel.
In a statement, Broadbeach reiterated that the club had been found to have not breached the total player payments cap of $16,500.
The club also took a swipe at the investigator chosen by AFLQ.
“Broadbeach AFC wish to reconfirm that complete transparency and expediency was afforded to the league appointed investigator, who was remunerated for her services, via access to all and any information as requested.
“Broadbeach AFC also wish to point out appointed AFLQ investigator has no experience at local senior club football level which created some angst amongst the players and volunteers chosen to be interviewed.
“As has been previously advised by AFLQ via media release, Broadbeach AFC did not exceed the total player payments for season 2020 and was in fact approximately 80 per cent of the TPP limit.”
The result of the hearing was as follows:
First charge: Broadbeach AFC failed to fully complete a player declaration form that was submitted to the league. Guilty, fined $500.
Second charge: Broadbeach AFC knowingly provided to AFL Qld a statement or information which was false or misleading or likely to mislead. Dismissed.
Third charge: Broadbeach AFC failed to lodge a player declaration on time (due to extenuating circumstances). Reprimand.
Fourth charge: Broadbeach AFC failed to lodge player declaration, as above noted in third charge, one week prior to the first round. Proven, reprimand

MEET the AFL draft smokey who has rival clubs lining up to snare him should the Gold Coast Suns choose to overlook the rising talent.
Aiden Fyfe came from the shadows to light up the AFL’s Queensland draft combine on Saturday, October 3, topping the rankings in the running vertical jump for both right (84cm) and left (95cm) legs as well as the 20m sprint, where he clocked 2.9 seconds.
Surfers Paradise talent Max Pescud recorded the fastest 2km time trial, completing it in 6 minutes and 36 seconds. Fellow Gold Coast Suns academy players Alex Davies, who plays for Broadbeach, and Northern Territory talent Joel Jeffrey are considered by many to be the leading prospects for the club going into this year’s draft.
But Fyfe has shot into the frame on the back of his combine performance, with two rival clubs meeting with the 18-year-old in the lead-up to the draft on December 7.
“I was really happy with how I went,” Fyfe said.

“I had the QAFL grand final the week before so I spent a lot of the week trying to recover.
“I felt awesome going into it and super confident.
“I feel like I put my best foot forward.”
Fyfe said he was grateful to be able to show everyone what he has believed for a long time, that he is as good as the best coming through the Suns’ ranks.
“I feel like I have always flown under the radar,” Fyfe said. “This year, with the opportunity I had in the combine, I wanted to prove to everyone I was a lot better than everyone thinks.”
Fyfe’s combine performance was another handy addition to an impressive resume.

The Gold Coaster was a standout at school football, winning the AFLQ senior male division school cup in 2019 courtesy of a kick after the siren.
He was on the list of the Southport Sharks NEAFL team in 2018 but shifted to Broadbeach in 2019 in order to get more senior game time.
Fyfe earnt a QAFL Rising Star nomination last year and was considered the Cats’ best on ground in their 2020 grand final loss to Morningside on September 26.
He spent most of 2020 playing on the wing and across halfback but the versatile talent, who stands at 191cm and weighs 83kg, has also proven he can kick goals as a forward.
