PALM Beach Currumbin coach Jess Sinclair has hailed each game of the shortened 2020 QAFL season crucial to any premiership title after a revised fixture was released on Tuesday afternoon.

As per tradition, the Lions won’t have to wait long to avenge their 2019 Grand Final loss to Surfers Paradise, the two Coast clubs handed a Round 1 clash at Sir Bruce Small oval.

The shortened nine-round home and away season will start on July 11, with all clubs playing four home games and four away games.

All nine teams that entered the competition prior to the suspension of all matches will remain, including QAFL debutants Maroochydore.

Sinclair said his side had no choice but to come out firing with the abbreviated season not allowing teams the chance to build into form.

“You’ve got to jump out of the blocks and everyone will be saying the same thing but if you drop a couple early, it’ll hurt you down the track,” he said.

“We’re going to have to bank wins as fast as we can because we don’t want to play catch-up late or be hoping for results to go your way.”

“It’s just exciting that footy is happening again but I’m sure in the weeks leading into round one, those footy juices will start flowing and we’ll turn our attention to Surfers.”

‘I’LL LIVE OUT HIS DREAM’

Labrador will kick off their season against Morningside while Broadbeach will have to wait until Round 2 to start their 2020 campaign against Mt Gravatt due to a bye.

The top six teams will then battle out a sudden death finals series that culminates with the Grand Final on 26 September.

“If you’re going to win it, you’ve got to beat every side you can so it’s going to be game on when finals come around if we get there,” Sinclair said.

Sinclair also shut down suggestions the 2020 QAFL premiership will carry an asterisk.

“I’ve heard that bandied around a fair bit that it will be a phony premiership but it will be all forgotten come Round 1,” he said.

“It will still going to go down as a flag in the history books and we want it as much as any year.”

A revised QAFLW fixture has also been announced with the undefeated Coolangatta Bluebirds slated to take on Coast rivals Bond University.

Nine additional games will be played, adding to the three already decided with the grand final to be held on September 27.
