Collingwood Magpies player Jordan de Goey has been spotted for the first time since he was arrested and charged with assault in New York.

De Goey has been in the United States as part of a special pre-season training program as he heads into the most critical contract negotiation period of his football career as an unrestricted free agent for the first time.

But now his position in the AFL is hanging by a thread.

The 25-year-old was charged with assault and harassment of a 37-year-old man following an incident at the Dream Hotel in Manhattan on Saturday, and he is due to face court in New York over that matter on December 8.

De Goey had also been accused of “forcible touching”, but prosecutors have since dropped that charge.

On Thursday AEDT, W Training Facility founder Johnny Louch shared a video to Instagram of himself and De Goey at Newport Coast, in Orange County.

“Another beautiful day in California,” Louch said. “Heaps of training today. About 25 miles, 3000 feet of climbing; let’s go Jordy.

“It’s not easy kid but someone has gotta do it. No one said it was gonna be easy. Look at the view, it’s worth it.”

The Collingwood Football Club released a statement this week saying De Goey had been suspended from all club duties following his arrest.

“Collingwood today stood Jordan De Goey down from its AFL program indefinitely,” the club said.

“The club will continue to pay De Goey under the terms of his contract until such time as an outcome to proceedings against him in the United States is reached or a more complete account of events is established.

“In the interim, De Goey will not be permitted to train or play with Collingwood or make use of club resources, staff or facilities.

“Collingwood is deeply disappointed by reports and events of the last 48 hours involving De Goey in the US. Given the circumstances, the club believes it is appropriate to remove him from the AFL program.

“Collingwood has been in contact with De Goey and his management today and has explained to both its decision.”

Former Carlton captain Mark Maclure recently claimed if he were a teammate of De Goey, he would not want to play alongside him.

“He just seems to keep finding ways to get into strife,” Maclure wrote in The Herald Sun.

The AFL has also released a statement confirming the league’s integrity unit will investigate the alleged incident once further details are confirmed.

“The AFL has been contacted by the Collingwood Football Club and made aware of a report involving player Jordan De Goey, who is currently overseas,” the statement read.

“Collingwood is attempting to contact Jordan to obtain further information. The AFL Integrity Department will look into the matter once more information is obtained, until then the AFL is not in a position to make comment at this stage.”
