A charge against Collingwood star Jordan De Goey has been dropped following an alleged nightclub incident in New York.

De Goey had been accused of “forcible touching”, but he no longer faces that charge relating to a 35-year-old woman.

Police initially claimed De Goey grabbed “private areas outside of clothing without permission or authority” at a Manhattan hotel, but news.com.au understands prosecutors are no longer pursuing any charges relating to the female.

It is not known why that charge has been dropped.

De Goey was also charged with assault and harassment of a 37-year-old man. He is due to face court in New York over that matter on December 8.

Video of De Goey partying inside a New York nightclub was posted to Instagram on Saturday, just hours before he was taken into police custody.

De Goey was stood down indefinitely after his arrest, and the Collingwood Football Club released a statement saying he is suspended from all club duties and is not able to use club facilities.

“Collingwood today stood Jordan De Goey down from its AFL program indefinitely,” the club said.

“The club will continue to pay De Goey under the terms of his contract until such time as an outcome to proceedings against him in the United States is reached or a more complete account of events is established.

“In the interim, De Goey will not be permitted to train or play with Collingwood or make use of club resources, staff or facilities.

“Collingwood is deeply disappointed by reports and events of the last 48 hours involving De Goey in the US. Given the circumstances, the club believes it is appropriate to remove him from the AFL program.

“Collingwood has been in contact with De Goey and his management today and has explained to both its decision.”

De Goey has been in America as part of a special pre-season training program as he heads into the most critical contract negotiation period of his football career as an unrestricted free agent for the first time.

But now his position in the AFL is hanging by a thread.

There had been speculation from Collingwood great Tony Shaw last month that De Goey could follow in Dustin Martin’s footsteps in signing a rich long-term deal worth $1 million per season if able to take his form to another level in 2022.

Reports last month suggested De Goey could sign a five-year, $5 million deal as he made the call to appoint his firefighter brother-in-law Ryan Vague as his manager during future contract negotiations.

The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph on Monday morning told RSN radio’s Breakfast Club in Melbourne De Goey may have made a potential “$6 million mistake” if convicted.
