Luckless forward Paddy McCartin might just be the perfect fit for Geelong as he aims to reignite his career, says Herald Sun football columnist Jon Anderson.
The former No. 1 draft pick signalled his intent to return to the AFL ranks earlier in the week with his concussion issues seemingly behind him.
Anderson raised Geelong as a possible suitor for the 23-year-old – who hails from the region – as a potential replacement for ageing goalkicker Tom Hawkins

“Geelong is a club who could look at Paddy McCartin in his home environment … he did come from Geelong Falcons,” Anderson said on the Herald Sun Footy Podcast.
“Geelong is very, very conscious of Tom Hawkins long term, they need a replacement.
“It’s not going to be Josh Jenkins, he’s 30-plus anyway and Esava Ratugolea could be that player (or) he could be more (of a) ruck.”
Fellow Herald Sun football writer Scott Gullan would pick the delisted forward up off the scrap heap even if cut sizes are cut to 35.
“If he’s number 35 on my list … and if he’s had six months of training, eight months of training before potentially playing next year, I’d be taking him every day of the week,” Gullan said.
“He’s an elite talent, great character.
“You’ve got to imagine, he’s been to that many experts. If he gets the all clear, it’s a bit like Dylan Roberton. You’ve gone to the absolute experts, they know the situation, they know the sport you play.”
“I reckon (he) has to have a crack at it.”
