Former AFL star Jack Anthony set for another career backflip?

A former AFL player could be set to backflip on his decision to leave.

EX-AFL player Jack Anthony could potentially backflip on plans to leave QAFL powerhouse Palm Beach Currumbin.

Anthony has made a stunning return to training with the Lions in recent weeks despite signalling to the club his intention to leave at the end of the 2019 season.

The 32-year-old key forward has spent the past two seasons with the Lions, helping them win the 2018 premiership before featuring in their 2019 grand final side.

Anthony messaged Palm Beach Currumbin coach Jess Sinclair recently to inquire about the pre-season training schedule and has been on the pitch with the senior men’s team ever since.

Sinclair said he was still uncertain if Anthony would stay on for the 2020 QAFL season despite his presence.

“He has been at training and he is flying at the moment but I just don’t know what his plans are,” Sinclair said.

“I haven’t sat down with him yet to discuss it and I think he is still undecided.

“If I was a betting man I’d be sitting on the fence.”

Sinclair indicated Anthony wanted to travel Australia in a van, funding his movements by playing football around the nation for different clubs.

“He wants to do it but I just don’t know how it will work logistically,” Sinclair said.

Palm Beach Currumbin have already moved to fill the void that was going to be left by Anthony’s departure, signing key forward Trent Stubbs.

Stubbs played for Southport in the NEAFL in 2019 but featured in four games for the Lions, kicking 14 goals, during stints in the QAFL when not selected for the Sharks.

Anthony played 51 AFL games during his time at the top level, including 43 for Collingwood and eight for Fremantle.

He went on to sign with the Southport Sharks in 2014 before joining Palm Beach Currumbin in 2018.
