GOLD Coast bosses have revealed how many fans could be coming through the gates of Metricon Stadium within the next three games.
The Suns could host around 6500 fans at Metricon Stadium within three weeks as they prepare to play in front of spectators for the first time this weekend.
Gold Coast have been given the green light to have 2000 fans at this Sunday’s Round 3 AFL clash with the Adelaide Crows at Metricon.
Suns CEO Mark Evans said, subject to Queensland Government approvals, they could have 4000 to the June 27 game against Fremantle and extend to 25 per cent capacity, around 6500, for their third home game, yet to be finalised.
“We have been working extensively with the Queensland Health Department over the last couple of weeks on all of the protocals and measures to make sure Metricon Stadium can handle a crowd safely,” Evans said.
Gold Coast became the first club in Queensland to have their stadium approved for fan attendance on Monday by officials, followed by the Lions at the Gabba on Tuesday.
Evans also revealed how close the Suns came to having fans at their Round 2 game last Saturday following a week that started with speculation spectators were confirmed before the State Government pulled the pin.
“Our first draft was submitted at the start of last week and by Friday we got to a stage where we thought 80 to 90 per cent of the requirements had been contemplated and covered,” Evans said.
“Pleasingly, we were able to work with the health department across the weekend to get the final items addressed in the plan.”
The major sticking points included details over evacuation plans and a clear zoning off of fans.
Premium members of the Suns will have priority over securing tickets to Sunday’s game. This includes platinum and gold members.
Other members will go into a ballot, something that is expected to be done for at least the first two games.
There will be no public sale for this weekend’s game. Members won’t automatically be put into the ballot, with the onus on them to enter the lottery.
This will be done to ensure only those who are available and eager to attend have the chance to go.
Opposition fans will be allocated a small number of tickets, understood to be up to 100, with 85 per cent of the crowd to be made up of Suns members and corporate partners.
Gold Coast are working through the ticketing strategy for the games beyond this weekend, with the aim of getting as many premium members to as many games as possible while providing a chance for other members to at least get a taste of the action live.
Spectators will be directed to their assigned seats as part of the registration process, with the club able to then gather information on the location of members for tracing purposes.
Members will be given a specific gate to enter at a period of time to ensure a safe flow of people through the area.
Families will be able to sit together as a group but there will be a row between groups and a minimum of two spare seats between them on either side.
Food and beverage venues will be open but fans will be restricted to accessing the outlets on offer in their particular zone in order to avoid groups moving around the stadium.
Social distancing officers will be employed by the Suns to guide people around eateries, where cashless payments will be used, as well as the entry and exit points.
Strict cleaning measures will be put in place before and after the event and around players and officials in order to limit interaction with fans.
The usual match-day public transport such as additional services, shuttle buses and park and ride will not be in operation. Normal weekend public transport will be operation.
Ticketed members will have access to the council-operated car park on Nerang Broadbeach Road, directly across from Metricon Stadium. Parking is complimentary, parking passes are required and can be secured in the process of securing entry tickets.
The Suns are understood to be open to covering the cost to council for the service.
