‘A phenomenal event’: Iconic Burleigh Swim Run Challenge to hit shores on Aus Day long weekend

The stage is set for an iconic 14th annual Burleigh Swim Run Challenge to be held on Australia Day, Monday January 27.
With three events to choose from, there is something for everyone to combine fitness and fun with Burleigh’s stunning coastal scenes.
“What a phenomenal event it is,” organiser Ty Dowker said.
“It’s all community based … all about fitness, all about family and it’s all about fun.
“I love it, it’s get you out of your comfort zone, and a great little quote that I live by is that ‘if you’re not challenged, you don’t change’.”
The highly-anticipated ‘Challenge’ event features a gruelling 400m ocean swim and 4km beach run, with the Open Age category boasting prize money.
A ‘Taste-Tester’ for those less experienced features a modified 200m ocean swim and 2km beach run, which Dowker says is the perfect choice for athletes giving something new a try.
“I see this as an opportunity to dip your toe into an adventure and open water challenge.”
The ‘Young Guns’ event – catered for 5-12 years athletes – features a 400 wade along ankle-deep water plus a 400m beach run to finish.
“I don’t know who gets more excited, myself or the kids or the parents,” Dowker said.
For those with a fiery team spirit, the Burleigh Swim Run also offers a team relay entry where one person completes the swim and another brings it home on foot.
