Fighter praise’s Fight World ‘family’ atmosphere for being crowned best combat gym on the Coast

Fight World was voted by 29 per cent of voters the best combat gym after the latest poll run by the Bulletin, a gym the Baresic has trained in since it opened in 2019.

Baresic said nothing compares to training out of Fight World.

“It's a cool achievement for us to be named the best combat gym as we haven’t been open for long,” Baresic said.

“I think what our gym has is a lot more special then any other, we are very close with our members, it’s a family environment.”

Baresic returned to the ring in 2023, after 18 months off with a serious hip injury.

Taking on one of Far North Queensland best fighters, Ryan McDonald, Baresic won by TKO in the final round.

During the time he couldn’t step in ring, the young fighter turned to coach the younger fighters coming through the gym.

“I love coaching the next generation of fighters as much as I love fighting myself,” Baresic said.

“Seeing them grow as fighters is special.

“This gym is kind of my life, I’m there everyday and all the staff are like family to me.

“They’re my best mates even outside of the gym, I look at them like my own brothers.

“I’ve only really coached kids from the start but I started to coach adults a year or so after the gym opened.

“When Albert Tu’ua moved from Ipswich at the start of 2023 he had already been a coach over there as well.”

Baresic and Tu’ua became tag team champions after the pair competed in the Main Event for at Dreamworld on Friday December 15.

It was the first event of its kind on the Gold Coast.

Fight World was named the best combat gym on Friday December 22, ahead of 32 other combat gyms across the Coast.

It may have opened the gym’s doors only four years ago but now it has been crowned the best combat gym on the Gold Coast.

Thanks to 29 per cent of voters, Fight World had the most votes out of 33 gyms that made the final cut.

Fight World manager Dijana Baresic said it was incredible for the gym to be where it is today.

“It is such a family environment that has grown so much since we opened about four or five years ago,” she said.

“We have over 400 members now which is incredible but that comes that family environment.

“We have great coaches across different type of combat sports as well.

“And our owner of the gym, Raider Lewis, he has been incredible for the growth of the gym.”

Fight World has a wide range of combat sports including Muay Thai, Boxing and MMA.

Albert Tu’ua, a coach at Fight World hold’s the WBC title while his best mate and fellow coach Brandon Baresic hold’s the Queensland WBC title.

Both Tu’ua and Baresic junior have been part of the Helensvale gym since the doors opened in January 2019.

The best mate duo added another title to their growing tally after winning a Tag Team title as the main event fight at Dreamworld on Friday December 15.

The gym offers training programs for fighters of all fitness levels and age groups with a number of young fighters like Maximillian Stambolziovski helping grow the sport.

Fight World also feature other coaches, such as WBF Asia Pacific Super Heavyweight Champion Kim Heta and Muay Thai’s Destiny Middleweight titleholder Brayden Johnston.

In a normal busy week, the gym hold’s classes from 6am right up until closing at 7:30pm, running across Monday to Friday with just two classes on Saturday morning.

Both Albert and Brandon are looking forward to what 2024 has to offer them after their most recent title fight.

“I will have a couple weeks off before getting into some training and then preparing for a title fight in February,” Tu’ua said.

“I am incredibly thankful to Brandon, he is like a brother to me, always in my corner.

“But the gym as well, it is such an incredible place to be, everyone just looks out for one another.”
