Keebra Park State High School hit the ground running with an impressive 36-6 victory over Redcliffe in the opening round of the Langer Trophy on Wednesday night.
The perennial juggernauts of Queensland schoolboys rugby league showed they will once again be a force to be reckoned with in 2025 with a dominant display from start to finish.
Keebra Park left centre Joseph Tupuse gave the hosts the perfect start with a try in just the second minute of the game and was near unstoppable throughout the contest.
“Joseph Tupuse he really went to the game tonight, I think he would have ended up with more than 20 carries and made a couple of line breaks towards the end there, so I was really impressed with his workload tonight,” Keebra Park coach Peter Norman said.
Down 12-0 after a strong start from the hosts, Redcliffe struggled to find any momentum until a brilliant piece of work from Hollon Poto late in the first half gave the visitors a massive boost just before the break.
Ngaakau Graham produced a perfect crossfield bomb for the Redcliffe winger to latch onto and score a try to make it a six-point game at the break.
However, the momentum was short-lived as Keebra immediately responded with a try in the first set of the second half.
From there, the home side never looked back as it cruised to a statement win and rounded out a perfect day for Keebra Park, with wins in the Langer Reserves, Walters Cup and Langer Trophy.
Norman was impressed with the way his side took their chances in the second half when the game was still in the balance at 12-6.
“It was a good way to start the year, I wouldn’t call it perfect but happy with the second half,” he said.
“12-6 at half time and I think the final score doesn’t reflect how good Redcliffe were, they stuck in there.
“They’re missing a couple of players but they’re a really hard team and made us earn every point.
“I think we created a lot of opportunities in the first half that we didn’t capitalise on but we made the most of our opportunities in the second half, so it was a good first round performance.”

Keebra Park SHS v Redcliffe SHS (Walters Cup) – 2025 Langer Trophy Round 1
PREVIEW
Future Queensland Maroons will be on show today as the state’s premier rugby league talent factories lock horns for a slice of glory in the Langer Trophy.
Keebra Park State High School will be out for vengeance in 2025 as it looks to improve on its semi-final exit in last year’s Allan Langer Trophy.
The school was one of the dominant teams as it finished in second place last campaign and will play host to Redcliffe State High School in its season-opener on Wednesday afternoon.
Both the Langer Trophy and Walters Cup matches will be exclusively live streamed here on KommunityTV.
Coach Peter Norman was excited to see how his team would perform this year, with several players returning from the 2024 side.
“We got a fair few boys back from last year, so a bit of experience there, plus some really exciting guys coming through from our year 10 side last year that won the state championship,” Norman said.
“A good mix of young and old and they’ve been ripping in and waiting until finally they get the chance this Wednesday.”
Norman said his side would be back better and stronger this year after their defeat to eventual champions Palm Beach Currumbin SHS in the semi-finals last season.
“It’s just another learning curve for them, they’ve taken that on board,” he said.
“It’s not like they’re using this fuel for fire, it’s just part of their journey and as long as they learn some valuable or tough but valuable lessons last year they’ll be better for it this year.”
Norman emphasised the importance of completing sets in this opening encounter against Redcliffe and expects a tough contest.
“I’m expecting big things from them (Redcliffe),” he said.
“They had a large portion of the Sunshine Coast schoolboys side that made the grand final of the state carnival recently in Gladstone.
“So the majority of that Sunshine Coast team was all Redcliffe so they’ve got a fair few really strong players in their forward pack that we’ll need to be on our game to make sure we keep them under control.”
Norman said his side’s biggest strength this year will be their strength across the park, with some elite outside backs mixing in with a dominant forward pack.
“We relied on having a lot of depth last year,’ he said.
“I think having that year 10 cohort last year that won the state championship, there’s a lot of talented boys in year 11 that are going to be playing Langer Reserves and trying their hardest to compete every week for a spot in the Langer Trophy side.
