SOCCEROO young gun Tommy Oar is the latest high-profile athlete to make a seven-figure property purchase on the Coast.

Property records confirm the 23-year-old Southport product outlaid $1.31 million for a beachside shack in Dudley St, Mermaid Beach, with the sale settling in January.

HOME OF THE WEEK: CHEVRON IS

The 1970-built house features three bedrooms and is situated on a 405sq m block in what marketing material labelled a “supreme” position.

However, neighbours might not yet see much of the ex-Brisbane Roar star, who is understood to be using the property as an investment before eventually building his dream home.

Oar is currently playing in the Dutch Eredivisie league with FC Utrecht, with whom he signed a five-year deal shortly after debuting for the Socceroos in 2010 as an 18-year-old.

Now in the final year of that contract, he has been repeatedly linked to Dutch giants and 2013/14 premiers Ajax Amsterdam.

The talented winger was last week named in the national squad to take on Germany and Macedonia in friendlies on March 25 and 30, respectively.

Back on the Coast, Oar also owns a Surfers Paradise unit which he bought for $360,000 in 2012.

Oar’s new home, marketed by Luke Henderson and Mike Deane of Professionals Mermaid Beach, has previously sold for as high a price as $1.55 million, back in 2006.

Mr Henderson declined to confirm the buyer’s identity but said position had been the focus of the new owner.

“They just wanted to secure a nice position in the area before the market went up further,” he said.

The home is located within a handful of kilometres from an impressive waterfront property registered to his mother Delia.

A number of top athletes own million-dollar Gold Coast homes, with 11-time world champion surfer Kelly Slater among the most recent to buy.

Slater’s purchase of a luxury $2.15 million Jefferson Lane apartment in Palm Beach settled in December.
