We saved $27k by revamping our kitchen for less than $800

After being quoted more than $27,000 to renovate her 1990s kitchen, a Gold Coast woman has transformed the space into a luxurious villa for just $770.

In a video posted to TikTok, Parker Pastidis said she wanted to make the kitchen look more modern without the costly price tag.

Originally fitted with pink curtains, pink cupboards and dated handles, Ms Pastidis transformed the space by painting the surfaces, adding shelves, adding new appliances and adding a LED strip under the skirting.

Commenters were sceptical with many stating that spending just $770 for everything seemed to be impossible.

Snapping back at critics, Ms Pastidis uploaded a second video outlining how much every product cost, adding a caveat that the floorboards were excluded from the price.

“Paint: $350. Shelf large: $13. Shelves small: $6.50 each. Skirting: $30. Oven: $25. Handles: $25. LED strip: Free. Rangehood: $109. Stovetop: $169,” she wrote.

Taking it one step further, the renovator included screenshots of every product she used and the total amount each product cost.

“We are on a budget. My page is for others on a budget who want a nice place to call home,” she said.

“Doesn’t need to last forever. Just until we get more money together to build the kitchen we actually want.”

Commenters were quick to point out the original design looked exactly like the kitchen in Kath and Kim.

“No there’s no rubber gloves sitting by the windowsill for when Kath has her cigarette,” one commenter replied.

But not all comments were negative, with multiple people congratulating Ms Pastidis on her kitchen renovation.

“As an ex-cabinet maker, people don’t understand how cheap you can renovate a kitchen if you get decent second hand stuff. Price is very realistic,” one commenter said.

A second commenter added: “Sending this to my landlord because your girl has been dealing with 90s mum apricot kitchen tiles and cabinetry for too long.”

While another chimed in: “Looks good for the price. It’s nice to see affordable renovations. Not everyone wants to go into debt straight away for perfection. It’s nice to be able to make changes now and then do more later.”

Just under a year ago, Ms Pastidis started her renovation journey after buying a spacious three bedroom home.

“If you’re like me you’re not going to pay someone to do something you have no idea how to do,” she said in an earlier video.

“Look it up on YouTube and figure out how the hell to do it yourself.”
