Outside of work, Dane Atherton is a devoted husband and father-of-three, who loves nothing more than hitting the surf, shooting hoops with daughter Zara and drawing fashion inspiration from Daniel Craig’s James Bond 007 character.

1. My three children

Zara is eight, going on 17! She’s the responsible big sister. Zara and I like to play basketball together and shoot hoops by the pool. I definitely resonate with Max, 6, as he’s the middle child and an early riser like me. He makes friends quickly. And Levi, 4, is the baby and quite a larrikin. He keeps the cuteness around the house!

2. My wife

I’ve known my beautiful wife, Kym, 36, since we were kids. We lost touch over the years but it wasn’t until our mums got talking and set up a date for us, when I was 22 and Kym was 20. We went to George’s Paragon, and I was very impressed that Kym ordered garlic prawns. We had another date at Three Beans at Broadbeach and walked on the beach the next day. That was 16 years ago. It was like an arranged marriage but with a modern-day twist.

3. My car

We were on holidays two years ago and I was flicking through a Wheels magazine and saw an ad for the Maserati Ghibli. I fell in love and drove to the dealership the next day. I love the style and the sound of the engine is beautiful. The kids call it the “Rati”. Maserati Ghibli, $139,900, Euromarque, 3252 8222.

4. My surfboard

I grew up on the Gold Coast and boarded at Ipswich Grammar but my surfboard has definitely made a resurgence since I moved back here. It’s a great escape, to get back to nature. My favourite beach on the Coast is Miami and I’ve been to Fiji a few times for the tropical setting and awesome surf. Fiji has always been my dream holiday destination.

5. My Beats wireless headphones

I like to run in the gym listening to music or just chill at home. The Beats headphones are like a stereo for your ears. I love everything from Dire Straits to hip hop.

6. My Tom Ford suit

I’ve had this suit for a year. It’s a beautiful cut with a wide lapel and is charcoal in colour. Harvey Specter (from Suits) and Daniel Craig (from James Bond) wear the same one. You weren’t able to buy Tom Ford on the Coast until Harrolds recently opened. I feel like a million dollars when I wear it!

7. My Starbucks coffee mug

I use my mug every morning because it’s BIG. Coffee is my morning ritual; it reminds me of the GC. I have an instant coffee Moccona first up, and then switch to “real” coffee.

8. My Sonos Sound System

This is great for whacking on Spotify for a party – the sound is awesome. And you can shut off different sections at a time.

9. My Emma Gale portraits

I love the colours and the quirky juxtaposition of young and old of my Vincent van Gogh and boy paintings. We obviously have a young boy in the family (Levi) and I’m the old guy! The Anthea Polson gallery is great as they let you “try on” paintings at home.

10. My Asics Kayano running shoes

I run along the beach and along Hedges Ave, Mermaid Beach and these shoes are great. They have amazing cushioning and are like running on clouds! I usually run eight to 10km about three to four times a week.
