Quest Apartments Gold Coast: New hotel planned for Southport site

Plans for the Gold Coast’s newest hotel have been unveiled. But the tower, which will cater to business visitors, is nowhere near Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach. It’s in a residential street.

THE Gold Coat’s newest hotel will be built on a residential street far from the towers of the Glitter Strip.

Business hotel chain Quest apartments plans to build an Art Deco-inspired 15-storey mixed-use mid-rise on Southport’s Lather St on a 1012sq m site formerly occupied by a pair of dilapidated wooden houses.

The site is now empty and neighbours a busy kindergarten and an under-construction tower from developer Draycon.

The building, on the edge of the Gold Coast’s central business district, will feature eight levels of holiday units and six storeys of residential apartments.

There will be 76 rooms within the hotel and 30 units for permanent residents.

The global hotel chain, which has more than 170 outlets across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Fiji, has written a letter to the Gold Coast City Council pitching the project.

“Quest Hotels have been interested in the Southport Priority Development Area (PDA) as a new location due to its proximity to Queen Street and the Southport Business Centre, the Gold Coast Light Rail and Broadwater Station, and the Broadwater Parklands,” the letter read.

The development application was filed by Sam Vecchio of Westpoint Consultants.

The project will go before councillors for approval later this year but is virtually certain to get the green light, being situated within the PDA zone.

It is not the first time a tower has been pitched of the site.

In 2016 council approved a 75-unit residential tower and cafe but the project never went ahead.
