A DAY hospital with surgical theatres and a GP clinic will anchor the first stage of a $1.5bn health precinct to be built in the Gold Coast’s far north.
Joint venture partners Keylin and Kinstone Group have lodged plans for the first stage of the 47.7ha Foxwell precinct at Coomera.
Keylin managing director Louis Cheung said his company’s private project would interface with the state government’s own plans for a major public hospital in the rapidly growing suburb.
“Over the past year, our development team has delivered significant infrastructure to the future health precinct, including new road networks and infrastructure connections,” he said.
“Foxwell Day Hospital will be located at the existing intersection of Wellness Way and Creek Road South.
“In addition to its specialist and allied health services, the hospital will also feature premium end-of-trip facilities, a rooftop restaurant with extensive views of the northern Gold Coast, and a ground level cafe for patients and visitors.
“We are adopting a staged approach for the delivery of Foxwell Coomera’s Health and Wellness Precinct that takes into account the 404-bed Coomera Public Hospital announced by the Queensland Government in last year’s budget.”
The joint partners last year unveiled their master plan for the site, which will have a $700m, 400-bed, 60,000sq m state-of-the-art hospital at its heart.
No operator for the hospital has been announced.
There will also be dining and business precincts and retail offerings which Kinstone Group general manager Tommy Hung said would be tailored towards “lifestyle and wellbeing”.
“The Foxwell Day Hospital is the centrepiece of the Health and Wellness component of the Coomera Town Centre, with future stages to include campus-style allied health care, outpatient facilities, rehabilitation, and wellness services,” he said.
“The scale of Foxwell Coomera (Health and Wellness Precinct), and its proximity to public transport and the M1, presents an opportunity to explore how health and wellness can coexist with future-focused commercial and residential spaces.
“We look forward to Queensland Health breaking ground on the nearby public hospital.”
The state government is planning to build a $1.3bn hospital precinct of its own which will have a 13-storey hospital at its heart.
Once fully operational, it will have room for up to 800 beds and 4000-4500 staff. The hospital was announced in October, 2020, just weeks out from that year’s state election as part of a $160m election commitment.
A preliminary business case was given $3m in funding in the 2021 state budget, with a six-year construction period stated, business case dependent.
Northwest Healthcare also lodged plans with the Gold Coast City Council in mid-2022 for a dedicated mental health hospital on Foxwell Rd.
The three-storey Aurora hospital will have 60 beds and is the second stage of the health precinct, which will become one of the key planks of the rapidly growing suburb’s future.
