CONTROVERSIAL plans to redevelop popular Palm Beach dining venue The Collective into a luxury hotel are moving forward despite opposition from locals.
Developer S & S Projects has submitted plans to the Gold Coast City Council for the 22-storey project which will be the suburb’s first luxury hotel and is being pitched as a “new mixed-use development that will become a Palm Beach dining and visitor destination in its own right”.
It will feature a five-star boutique hotel, several floors of luxury residential units, a ground floor cafe and wine bar, and a “signature” rooftop restaurant and cocktail bar.
S & S boss Paul Gedoun said the project’s features had been altered based on feedback received from Palm Beach residents.
“After seeking extensive community feedback for this development, we believe we have laid the foundation for a new destination precinct that will become the social heart of Palm Beach by day and by night,” he said
“This is a carefully considered design aimed at creating a real sense of place for locals and visitors to enjoy, while delivering on the objectives of meeting demand for residential and tourist accommodation.
“Palm Beach is a unique location on the Gold Coast and The Collective has been a big part of its emergence as a true urban lifestyle hub for locals in recent years and getting to understand what the locals would like us to create on this landmark site was an incredibly important part of the process.”
Mr Gedoun said he was looking forward to progressing on the tower, which will be launched to the market in early 2022.
S & S bought The Collective site in September for $4m.
Palm Beach residents have opposed the Gold Coast Highway project since it was announced in October, citing concerns about overdevelopment in the suburb, which has seen a wave of new towers built in the past three years.
The proposed hotel will feature a range of rooms and for singles, couples, and families while the residential floors will have two and three-bedroom apartments.
S & S Projects is planning a range of two and three-bedroom apartments.
The design for the new development is inspired by the suburb’s namesake in Palm Beach, Florida, with an architectural style drawing on arched elements from Cuban and Spanish themes.
The development will be the company’s fourth on the southern Gold Coast to be unveiled in the past year.
S & S Projects is behind the under-construction $74m Flow Residences, the mixed-used Esprit tower which is before council and the luxury $46m Awaken Residences which is replacing the now-demolished cafe D-Bar.
