A mystery developer has snapped up the site of a proposed tower in the mansion-filled riverfront streets of Surfers Paradise for a record $9.35m.
Plans for an 18-storey unit complex have been pitched for a 1000sq m site on Sunset Boulevarde and will be the first tower built on Sunset Boulevard, which fronts the Nerang River overlooking the Home of the Arts (HOTA).
Agents Alex and Victoria Fleri, from Amir Prestige, negotiated the sale and said the unnamed buyer expected more projects to emerge for the street.
“The area is set to be the next development hot spot on The Gold Coast (and) the process has been long drawn out with our first buyer having to pull out of contract due to market difficulties,” Mr Fleri said.
“A new developer with vast experience in mid-rise boutique constructions understood the dynamics of the site and the growth corridor which will be created once the HOTA centre is expanded further.”
The site was owned by Rani Lin since April 1990 and had been on the market since 2021.
It is currently occupied by a pair of two-storey waterfront mansions which will be demolished to make way for the redevelopment.
First look: Giant tower planned for site next to waterfront mansions
Developers have lodged plans for a tower on a waterfront Surfers Paradise site next to multimillion-dollar mansions.
The 18-storey unit complex has been pitched by company Sunset Residence and will be the first tower built on Sunset Boulevard, which fronts the Nerang River overlooking the Home of the Arts (HOTA).
The 1000sq m site has been owned by Rani Lin since April 1990 but has been on the market since 2021. It is currently occupied by a pair of two-storey waterfront mansions which will be demolished to make way for the towers if approved by the Gold Coast City Council.
Between them, there houses have two pools, nine bedrooms and six bathrooms.
A planning report lodged with the council says its location near the beach and riverfront provides “a unique opportunity to service the future occupants with a variety of services and facilities within the central part of the Gold Coast”.
“The proposed development is providing a mix of unit typologies to provide a variety of apartment types for the tower and contribute to the mix of apartments across the City,” the report reads.
“The ground level and podium have been uniquely designed to ensure the landscaped areas encapsulate the built form to soften the development and complement the high quality architectural design.
“The development is providing various areas of communal open space from the riverfront to the upper level and provides a range of services for the future occupants to use.”
