A Gold Coast teenager has been left shaken after an online meet up to sell a phone went wrong.

Gold Coast police were called after an attempted robbery which turned into a crash along Kuari Pine St in Reedy Creek at around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said a 19-year-old man had planned to meet with someone who was going to buy a phone off the teenager.

“They were confronted by an unknown male who attempted to steal the phone,” she said.

The teenager then got into his Toyota Corolla to escape but lost control and crashed into a parked car.

The 19-year-old and his 17-year-old female passenger were not physically injured in the crash.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information should contact police.

It comes less than five months after, an unrelated incident involving a 17-year-old man, who was charged after group of teenagers allegedly punched and kicked a man they met on Facebook Marketplace.

A 20-year-old man was attempting to sell his Ford Falcon ute at the Westfield Shopping Centre carpark in Helensvale when a group of males demanded his keys and assaulted him.
