Revealed: What Melania told Donald Trump during inauguration dance

Trump's Bold First Day: Liberty Ball, Major Pardons, & a "Golden Age" Vision

The President and First Lady attended three inaugural balls to celebrate his 2025 inauguration and a lip reader has claimed to have discovered what they said to each other.

Melania whispered a heartfelt message to husband Donald Trump during the Liberty Ball, lip reading expert Jeremy Freeman told the Mirror.

The 47th US president, who was sworn in on Tuesday AEDT, is only the second president in US history to serve two non-consecutive terms.

Starting at the military-themed Commander in Chief ball, the Trumps moved on to the Liberty Ball where the president shared an “awkward” dance with Melania. They wrapped up the evening at Union Station’s Starlight Ball.

But it was during their dance at the Liberty Ball, Mrs Trump told her husband: “Today is one we will never forget,” to which the 78-year-old responded: “You’re right, I’ll learn, I’ll fight.”

Mrs Trump then expressed her support with the tender words: “I got you”.

Earlier that night, the president and Mrs Trump made a grand entrance at the Commander-in-Chief ball where Melania seemed uncomfortable during the couple’s brief dance.

Body language expert Mark Bowden observed the First Lady’s discomfort was due to her having to support her husband’s weight as he leaned forward to meet his wife cheek to cheek – closer than he was able to earlier in the day due to Melania’s wide-brimmed hat serving as a barrier.

Greg Matt Travis posted on X: “Trump and Melania’s Inaugural Ball first dance was something else – a stiff, awkward shuffle that looked more like a hostage situation than a celebration. The man who claimed he’d “Make America Great Again” couldn’t even make a slow dance look convincing.”

It wasn’t the only eye-opening moment from Inauguration Day.

During the ceremony, Trump’s son Barron was spotted making a “classy gesture” towards outgoing president Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

In his inauguration speech, Mr Trump vowed a new “golden age” for America immediately signing a blizzard of orders that he said would restore glory to a nation in decline.

In a nationalistic and often divisive inaugural address after taking the oath in the US Capitol, the 47th president promised a slew of measures on everything from the Mexican border to defining gender, and ending US participation in the fight to stop global warming.

The Republican then reached out to core supporters by signing an order pardoning supporters convicted for attacking the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to overturn his election loss to Joe Biden.

“The golden age of America begins right now. From this day forward our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world,” Mr Trump said in the Capitol, where the inauguration was held indoors for the first time in decades, due to freezing weather.
