Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been blasted for riding in a golf buggy as they waved to disabled veterans at the Invictus Games.
A short clip of the pair smiling as they sat in the buggy, posted to Meghan’s Instagram, caused uproar, with some branding the pair “desperate” for driving past disabled veterans backstage at the opening ceremony in Vancouver while being filmed.
One person wrote on Instagram: “Disabled veterans made to stand waiting in a mile long cold concrete corridor whilst these two very able bodied get golf carted in the opposite direction. Just when you think they can’t sink any lower.”
Another pointed out to the pair’s display, implying that it looked staged.
They wrote: “They drive along being taped by the cart behind them…with people being encouraged to yell out for them. When does this madness stop?’
Another critic said Meghan and Harry should have instead walked through the crowd in a meet and greet instead.
“So Meghan and Harry, two able bodied people, are driven on a golf cart past disabled veterans. ‘Some of the veterans are wheelchair bound. They should have walked through the group, meeting, greeting and shaking hands. All with a camera following them. Unbelievable.”
HARRY’S CHEEKY AUSSIE GIFT
Prince Harry was gifted a pair of bright blue budgie smugglers from Team Australia at the Invictus Games.
The men’s bathing suit was presented to Prince Harry during a “very important meeting” on the side of the sporting event where the Duke and Duchess joined in storytime with young children.
In a social media post, Meghan shared footage of her husband receiving the gift, with the caption: And Team Australia, you’ve done it again!”.
The Aussies have handed the royal a pair of the tight swimming costume at each Invictus Games.
Prince Harry stood up and held the budgie smugglers against his hips and laughed off a child’s suggestion to wear them on his head.
HARRY’S DIG AT TRUMP AFTER SAVAGE MEGHAN COMMENTS
Earlier, Prince Harry took a subtle dig at Donald Trump in his speech at the opening ceremony, after the US President ripped into Meghan, calling her “terrible”.
Mr Trump had ruled out deporting Prince Harry from the US amid the exiled royal’s ongoing visa row, claiming the youngest son of King Charles had “enough problems with his wife”.
Speaking to a crowd of 40,000 at the BC Stadium in Vancouver, Canada, Prince Harry criticised the “weak moral character in the world”.
He said: “At this moment, when there is no shortage of crises, no absence of uncertainty, no lack of weak moral character in the world, the values you embody, the way you carry yourselves – not only at the Invictus Games, but each and every day – your courage, your resilience, your humanity, illuminate a path forward for us all.”
Following his speech, Prince Harry and Meghan made a surprise appearance at an ice hockey game at the Rogers Arena, where they watched the Vancouver Canucks play against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The royal dropped the ceremonial first puck with members of the Canadian Invictus team.
Backstage, Meghan joined Canadian singer Nelly Furtado, who was performing at the event, for a video selfie, which a deadpan Prince Harry jokingly photobombed.
While in the stands at the stadium, Harry and Meghan cuddled up and kissed passionately as they watched the opening ceremony of the games, which will run until February 16.
Dressed in a long trench coat against the frigid weather, Meghan shook her blue pom poms in delight as she watched the ceremony.
She snuggled up to Harry in the stands before placing her hands on his cheeks and planting a huge kiss on his lips.
‘SHE’S TERRIBLE’: TRUMP RIPS INTO MEGHAN
Harry’s immigration status is the subject of litigation in Washington DC, with the Heritage Foundation alleging that he may have concealed past illegal drug use that should have disqualified him from obtaining a US visa.
But the US President told The New York Post that he isn’t interested in throwing Harry out of the country.
“I don’t want to do that,” he said. “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
Mr Trump took the opportunity to praise Harry’s estranged older brother William, with whom he met privately in Paris in December during the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame Cathedral.
“I think William is a great young man,” he said.
The Duke of Sussex and Meghan have voiced disapproval of Mr Trump over the years, including one outburst in which the Duchess called the President “divisive” and “misogynistic”.
Mr Trump in turn has described Harry as “whipped” by Markle. “I think poor Harry is being led around by the nose.”
Heritage cited Harry’s autobiography “Spare” — in which he admitted to using cocaine, cannabis and psychedelics — when it sued the Department of Homeland Security last year to force the release of his US visa records.
“Anyone who applies to the United States has to be truthful on their application, and it is not clear that is the case with Prince Harry,” Heritage’s Nile Gardiner told the London Daily Telegraph.
The conservative think tank suggests Harry was given preferential treatment by the Biden administration after he and Meghan moved to California in 2020 following their acrimonious “Megxit” split from the royal family.
