Teen charged with attempted murder over alleged stabbing at Forest Hill Chase

A 16-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed a teen at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s east, leaving him critically wounded, has been charged with attempted murder.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a teen with a knife at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s east.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody at a children’s court on Friday after his defence lawyer revealed he would not apply for bail.

He was charged on Thursday almost two months on from the alleged altercation in a car park at Forest Hill Chase on December 27.

Police allege a fight broke out between a group of males about 6.50pm before a witness raised the alarm with centre management.

A 16-year-old boy was found with stab wounds and rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
“He spent over a month in hospital and is recovering from significant injuries,” a police spokeswoman said.

The 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury, affray and assault with a weapon.

Attempted murder carries a maximum penalty of 25 years’ jail.

He has also been charged with possessing a drug of dependence and failing to comply with a direction to provide passwords.

He will return to court on March 7 in order for a magistrate to hear about his behaviour while in custody for the first time.

The boy was supported via video link by his father.

A 23-year-old man from Hoppers Crossing has also been charged with affray.

He was bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on June 6.
