Horror stabbing on Melbourne train leaves man in hospital

A man is fighting for life after being stabbed by a gang of bailed teens in a random-attack on a train during the evening-peak.

Call for Premier to get tough on youth crime

Three teenage boys have been bailed and a fourth is on the run after allegedly stabbing a man in a random attack on a Melbourne train.

A 31-year-old man has been left fighting for life after four boys allegedly attacked him on board a train travelling towards Huntingdale train station about 6.45pm on Thursday.

A Victoria Police spokesman said the teens had gotten into a fight with several passengers on the train when they attacked the Melbourne man.

It is understood one of the teens stabbed him in the upper body before the group fled.

Two boys, both 16, and a 17-year-old were charged with intentionally causing injury and affray after handing themselves into police.

They were all bailed to appear at a Children’s Court at a later date.

Police are hunting the fourth teen, who is the suspected ringleader of the attack.

The 31-year-old remained in Dandenong Hospital on Friday.

The man and the group of teenagers are not believed to be known to one another.

The Herald Sun understands a number of train services were suspended after the horror attack.

It comes after Police Minister Anthony Carbines’ swipe at Victoria’s court system, in which he called on magistrates to make sure their decisions to let young thugs out on bail were in line with community expectations.

The shocking Huntingdale incident is the latest in Victoria’s youth crime scourge which has become a major focus for police, who this week launched a dedicated task force to keep track of the state’s worst young offenders.

On Tuesday, a group of teens allegedly struck and killed 28-year-old Ashburton man William Taylor with a stolen car in Burwood.

Police are hunting three teens who remain on the run after that fatal incident and have charged a 17-year-old boy with a string of offences.

The victim was in a stable condition on Friday afternoon.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
