A popular crime show is bringing an entire season to the Top End, with a Darwin-themed backstory set to bring the best out of a pair of hot-shot detectives.

On Tuesday, Prime Video announced season two of its hit series Deadloch would be filmed in the Territory, with production to start late 2024.

Amazon MGM Studios senior development executive Sarah Christie said the detective series would showcase the Territory landscape.

“We are thrilled that Deadloch will be returning for a second season to give our global Prime Video customers another dose of its unique blend of Australian humour and gripping mystery, this time set against the visually stunning Northern Territory landscape.”

Following detective duo Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe, in season one it was revealed that Eddie’s roots were in the Territory.

Season two appears to revisit Eddie’s Top End past, with the pair travelling to Darwin to investigate the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy, only for the bodies of two Top End icons to be discovered in a remote town, sending the pair into a complex mystery.

Guesswork Television executive producer Kevin Whyte said Deadloch’s Territory instalment would not disappoint.

“We are excited to be picking up Deadloch where Season One left off and following Eddie home to the Territory,” he said.

“The NT is on a roll, with a great string of productions touching down in Darwin and an increasingly assured skill base, making it more than just home to stunning locations – we are hoping this will be the first of many shows we bring to Darwin and the Territory.”

Created by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, season two set a high benchmark, with the series’ inaugural season having reached the top 10 TV shows in more than 165 countries in and territories in 2023.

The major screen production was delivered through the Production Attraction Incentive Program (PAID) with a $718,000 investment, which Director Screen Territory’s Jennie Hughes said would offer local professionals the opportunity to contribute.

“Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan are immensely talented creatives and we look forward to their unique and quirky take on the Northern Territory’s Top End through the adventures of comedic detective duo Dulcie and Eddie,” she said.

“We are excited to support this terrific project which will deliver more opportunities for our local cast and crew and anticipate the production of a fantastic series for Deadloch fans with a unique Territorian twist.”
