A multi-vehicle crash on the Gold Coast M1 which blocked lanes has caused lengthy delays for peak hour traffic.

A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokeswoman said three cars were involved in the crash which occurred near the Lahrs Rd off-ramp (exit 45) about 7.10am on Tuesday.

Three people were assessed by paramedics for minor injuries. Two were transported to Logan Hospital, while a third person was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital. All were in stable conditions. Their injuries weren't believed to be serious.

Close to 9km of traffic had built-up southbound from the Fryar Rd overpass at Beenleigh.

Heavy delays also affected northbound traffic from Upper Coomera.
