Northbound lanes of the M1 were briefly blocked at Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast on Tuesday after a struck spilled a load of meat parts onto the road.

A Transport and Main Roads alert issued at 5.15pm said all northbound lanes were blocked heading towards Reedy Creek, with long delays expected.

TMR said “meat waste in lanes” was responsible for the disruption and advised motorists to seek alternative routes.

Motorists on social media reported seeing animal parts spread across the road.

“Looked like a truck load of offal or animal guts. There were so many intestines, my poor wheels,” one person wrote.

The meat was soon removed from the road and traffic, which had backed up for a number of kilometres, was back to normal by 6pm.

Meanwhile in a separate incident emergency services worked to rescue an elderly man who became trapped after crashing a ride-on mower down an embankment.

Ambulance and fire crews rushed to the scene on Currumbin Ck Road after being alerted to the incident at 4.43pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said they were working to free the man, who is in his eighties.
