A key Gold Coast hinterland link road has reopened after major roadworks to fix damage from a serious landslip more than a year ago.

Full traffic access to Beechmont Road between North Road and Brushbox Road was cleared

on Friday after extensive restoration works following a severe weather event in March 2022.

A mountainous section of the road had to be stabilised and safety restored before access could be given to motorists again.

The section has been open with restricted travel times via a temporary single-lane

side track since late July 2022 while repairs were undertaken.

Main Roads says it will be continuing its program of repairs at multiple other weather damaged sites along the road with minor delays to be expected at some locations.

Works will be completed between 6am and 6pm, with speed restrictions and a 24-hour one-lane reduction in some areas until later this year.

Temporary traffic signals and directional signage will be in place to direct motorists,

and traffic controllers are on site during working hours.

Delays of up to five minutes at each site are to be expected, and the works will be

subject to weather and site conditions.

Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey thanked residents for their patience, and congratulated workers for meeting short deadlines.

“This is a positive outcome for the communities and businesses recovering from the

record-breaking natural disaster events of 2022,” he said.

“Beechmont Road is one of many roads across the South Coast Region that we are

currently restoring as part of our Natural Disaster Program.

“Road users will continue to see restoration works underway at multiple sites on

Beechmont Road between Nerang-Murwillumbah Road and Lower Beechmont until

late 2023.

“We thank the Gold Coast hinterland community for their patience and support

during the remainder of the restoration works on this road.”
