A nightclubber who abused security guards outside a Townsville nightclub and tried to punch another partygoer, has been sentenced in court.

A nightclubber who abused security guards outside a Townsville nightclub — calling them ‘fat c---s’ — and tried to punch another partygoer, has been fined in court.

A court has heard how Vaughan Roy Collins, 24, had been in the line-up for the FLNDRS Bar & Nightclub on August 16, when he ran into difficulties.

The police prosecutor said Collins became “verbally aggressive” at 9.45pm, abusing the security guards and threatening to bash them.

“Collins and an associate have then moved onto the road and then became involved in another altercation with another male party, at which point (Collins) has attempted to punch that person in the face,” she said.

“Security has then intervened and restrained (Collins) and he was subsequently arrested.”

Appearing in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Wednesday, Collins pleaded guilty to one count of committing a public nuisance in the vicinity of a licensed premises.

The prosecutor said Collins’s criminal history showed that he assaulted a police officer in 2021.

Representing himself, Collins agreed with Magistrate Viviana Keegan when she suggested he might have a problem with drinking too much.

She noted the offending had been charged under the summary offences act, which carried a reduced penalty.

She fined Collins $1000, with no conviction recorded.
