Police are investigating after a stolen car was set on fire and left engulfed in flames with shocking videos of the incident being shared online.

At 4:50pm on Thursday afternoon Queensland Police and Fire emergency services responded to a call of a car fire on Louise Street in Cranbrook.

A fire and emergency services spokeswoman said they received multiple reports of smoke before arriving on scene at 4:55pm to an abandoned vehicle well engulfed in flames.

After extinguishing the blaze they ensured the area was safe before the car was removed.

A police spokesman said they were unable to locate anyone involved in the incident after searching the area.

Footage of the incident was captured by a nearby resident and posted to a community Facebook page showing a white vehicle driving to the area and a second video showing the car engulfed in flames.

Police investigations are underway with anyone who has relevant information urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The blaze comes mere hours after a stolen car crashed in front of a ‘Welcome to Townsville sign’ and another was dumped in a lake in Idalia.

More to come.
