Townsville residents will soon be able to fly themselves directly to the Gold Coast and back for under $100 thanks to a new Bonza route.
Bookings will open for the Townsville-Gold Coast route in September, and the first plane will take off in November.
Townsville Airport manager Brendan Cook said the inclusion of a fourth Bonza route to Townsville was “fantastic for business”.
“This shows Bonza has confidence in Townsville,” Mr Cook said.
“We’ve had great success so far with the Toowoomba, Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast flights.”
It’s expected the Townsville-Gold Coast connection will run five times a week.
Mr Cook also had good news about the state of Townsville Airport’s infamously broken escalators.
“We’re on track to have them completed by the end of August,” he said.
“The new escalators are in, and they will be opened by the end of August.”
In the past few years, the escalators gained a reputation for breaking down.
In December 2022 the airport committed to upgrading the escalators, but in April the site was still waiting for the new escalators to arrive.
