Northern Stevedoring Services took pride of place at the head of The Convoy for The Cure for a second successive year after raising more than $40,000 to help fight childhood cancer.

NSS general manager Mark George said more than 280 trucks and motorcycles were involved in the high-profile annual fund-raiser

He said the event focused the considerable weight of the transport industry on a singular issue, with the industry running second only to mining with its $164.4 billion or 7.9 percent contribution to gross domestic product.

“Trucks, bikes and kids: All the things that make hard working truck drivers turn soft. It has all been brought together at The Convoy for the Cure.”

Mr George said the event “blows away the stereotypes”.

“You can see by the response, they are proud of their industry, proud of their contribution, proud of their community and are ready to put their money where their mouth is to help influence an outcome,” he said.
