WHAT is the secret to the Gold Coast’s best burger patty?
Well don’t expect Butcher Andrew Loveday from Loveday’s Quality Meats at Burleigh Waters to reveal all his secrets at once after securing multiple first place wins in the recent Regional Sausage King Competition.

The Butcher of more than 30 years has owned Loveday’s at Tree Tops plaza for the past five years and scooped the awards pool in the competition, taking home gold in Best Beef burger and Gourmet open burger.

His gourmet Angus beef burger and the lamb, haloumi and caramelised onion burgers impressed the judges’ palate with Mr Loveday saying the secret was in the fat percentage of the patties.
“The meat needs to be 70 per cent lean and 30 per cent fat,” he said.
“Any less than that, the patties can get hard and dry and if there’s too much fat the flavour and texture isn’t there.
“It’s all about the selection of a quality product and we add a few secret flavours and recipes which makes all the difference.
“I can’t give too much away but it is all about the balance so they grill nicely.”
The idea for his revolutionary lamb, haloumi and caramelised onion burgers came about on Australia Day when the seasoned butcher wanted to create a flavour that was quintessentially Aussie.

The ingenious flavour combination has remained on his menu ever since, becoming a hit with locals.
Mr Loveday also came out on top for his gourmet sausage, lamb, gourmet open class and poultry sausages as well as his bone in ham, cheese kransky, honey kabana and bacon rashers.
Loveday’s are now off to the State awards at the Ekka on August 18.
