PUBLIC information will be one of the key focuses of two community group meetings regarding the Gold Coast Airport this month and next.
The operations of the Instrument Landing System will be presented to the Gold Coast Airport Noise Abatement Committee on October 25 and then to the Community Aviation Consultation Group (CACG) meeting on November 7.
AIRPORT EXPANSION TO BRING HUNDREDS OF JOBS TO COAST
Both groups are expecting to hear about Instrumental Landing System operations which are due to commence late this year or early next year and the November CACG meeting is awaiting the latest information on Airservices’ management of chemical contamination (PFAS) on and around the airport precinct.
MAGPIES KILLED AT GOLD COAST AIRPORT
According to CACG member, Lindy Smith from the Tugun Cobaki Alliance, the Federal Minister for Airservices, Michael McCormack, has directed Airservices to provide information on weather conditions which will trigger nomination of the ILS flight path as requested at the July CACG meeting.
Ms Smith said at that meeting, Airservices advised that such information was not available to the public.

“The community group representatives at that meeting registered concerns about the apparent lack of transparency on ILS operations given the impact it would have on many Gold Coast residents,” she said.
Ms Smith said through the office of McPherson MP, Karen Andrews, the concerns were presented to the Minister who has directed Airservices to provide the cloud base altitude and visibility for nomination of the ILS to the next meetings of the GCA Noise Abatement Committee and the Community Aviation Consultation Group.

“We hope to be able to pass this information on to all concerned,” Ms Smith said.
“Also at the November 7 meeting, community groups will be seeking what measures Airservices have taken with regard to monitoring/testing of potential migration of PFAS from contaminated sites on the airport site and any testing off-site.
“We would also like to hear what measures Airservices has undertaken in providing information of testing results and new information with residents and the relevant authorities.”
