WHO are the most influential people in Gold Coast sport? The Bulletin has scoured every sport to come up with a Power 50, ranking those who have an impact here in our city.

Today, we look at numbers 20-11, where powerful individuals such as Brett Cook feature.

Former long-time Surfing Australia chief executive was this year poached by the World Surf League to be its general manager for Australia and Oceania.

19. ASH TAYLOR

Has taken over from Jarryd Hayne as the Gold Coast’s NRL marquee man and will be the face of the Titans until at least the end of 2021 on his multimillion-dollar deal. His form is critical to the side’s success and could even find himself in Maroons contention in the coming years.

Cross Promotions chief executive and founder has had a massive role to play in the basketball scene as the push continues for the Gold Coast to rejoin the National Basketball League.

Businessman has been respected chairman of the Gold Coast Turf Club for six years now and is throwing everything at leading the club into a bright, self-sustainable future with plans to widen revenue streams.

Gold Coast resident is the head coach of Australia’s biggest Olympic sport, swimming. Oversaw an impressive campaign at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the back of a revamped selection process. Previously worked with a number of standout Dutch swimmers.

13. GEOFF SMITH

Generally flies under the radar but making a real impression as Sports Gold Coast chairman. Playing a central role in the push for a boutique 5000-seat stadium for the city.

12. GLYNIS NUNN

A 1984 heptathlon Olympic gold medallist, Nunn has an Order of Australia Medal to her name as well as a place in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

But there’s no stopping there, with the 57-year-old helping the next generation through her work at the Gold Coast Academy of Sport.

11. SALLY PEARSON

Champion hurdler has been the heart and soul of Australia’s athletics program for a decade. Achievements include 2012 Olympic gold, world championship triumphs in 2011 and 2017 and an Order of Australia Medal.
