What do you plan to do next year?

Attend university to hopefully undertake a course in engineering or biotechnology.

What have you learnt from your leadership role and how do plan to use these skills in the future?

A big thing I learned this year was to have confidence in my voice and my opinions. I’ll definitely be working on this skill forever but being a leader has nurtured an ability to speak for myself and others and feel certain in my judgments.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

I enjoy being able to advocate for my peers and make a difference for them. Being the voice for a community is something I admire, but I also put a lot of stock in being able to lead behind the scenes and create plans for change.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

Balance and consistency are the keys to happiness and success. You may struggle to find these things at first, so it’s important not to beat yourself up if you’re struggling, as this can lead you straight to a burnout.

What do you plan to do next year?

After graduating high school, I plan on going to university where I will hopefully study Nutrition and Dietetics as a bachelor degree.

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

I have developed skills in leadership, problem solving, communication and time management which I know will prove to be very useful in my professional future.

Leadership provides you with an unmatchable opportunity to connect with people.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

My advice for any student approaching their final year of high school is to enjoy the little things and take the initiative to make the memories they wish to keep.
We spend so much time as senior students stressing over exams and grades, and while they are important, we forget to treasure the lunch times, meaningful conversations and extra-curricular activities (aka the things we do remember).

What do you plan to do next year?

Next year I plan to study the field of finance and economics with such concepts of banking, investments, markets and trade causing this pathway to be right up my ally.

My preference for study is the UQ Advanced Finance and Economics degree which will entail hard work and rigorous study.

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

From my time as a College Captain of Southern Cross I have learnt many traits and qualities that influence one’s achievements.

Importantly, I have found that communication is crucial in making good plans and keeping the people involved informed.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

My advice to the 2023 College Captains, is that in the short time as leaders they should strive to achieve the goals they set, be dedicated to their values, and be someone others aspire to be.

Most of all though enjoy the final year of school and their role in the college community.

What do you plan to do next year?

Next year I would love to do exercise physiology at Uni and continue to play as much sport as I can.

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

The biggest things I have learnt from my leadership role are how to be resilient when juggling responsibilities, year 12 work and extra curriculars, and the importance of teamwork and collaboration.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

The thing I enjoy most about being a leader at my school is being able to get involved in lots of events surrounding school spirit and being able to connect with lots of younger girls who always remind me to smile.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

My advice for senior students in 2023 is to look out for one another and get involved as much as you can. Always be kind and encouraging towards your peers because if you support them, they will support you back, and it will just make the whole experience of year 12 much more positive.

What do you plan to do next year?

I hope to be accepted into QUT to study primary education.

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

Throughout this year people have brought forward different ideas and opinions. As a leader, I have been able to hear different perspectives that I may not have yet seen and implement different elements of people‘s ideas.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

One of the main things I have loved this year about being a student leader is being able to have a positive impact on other students‘ journeys. Whether it is the primary school students or my fellow grade 12’s, seeing the effect of the initiatives and the conversations the student leaders have is very rewarding.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

My main piece of advice for a student going into grade 12 in 2023 is to remember balance is crucial to achieving. Make sure you have time away from studying to do something for yourself.

What do you plan to do next year?

Like many I don’t know exactly where my journey will take me, but I would love to become a Doctor of Medicine. While this is an extremely hard profession to pursue, I think making a difference to the health of others would be extremely rewarding.

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

The importance of teamwork and surrounding yourself with great people with similar goals. Being able to work in a team is so universal and will be useful in all aspects of my life.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

It has been a real privilege and honour to serve the St Rita’s College community this year. I have really enjoyed being given the opportunity to organise fundraisers, initiatives and events for the whole student body to enjoy, to make the most of every moment.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

Throw yourself into every event and make the most of your final year of schooling. Join a sports team, dress up for fundraisers and don’t wish the year away too much.

What do you plan to do next year/your aspirations?

I plan to do a double degree in Mechatronic Engineering and Computer Science at QUT. In addition to this, I hope to further develop my software development business, Acenci. Acenci provides a software called ‘PointDash’ to schools to help them manage their house point allocations.

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

I’ve learned that the best leaders are determined but humble. A good leader is strategic, open, and genuinely seeks alternative viewpoints as part of the decision-making process. There will always be challenges, it’s how you manage your response that matters.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

I enjoy mentoring younger students and the connections I’ve been able to make throughout the community. I think a leader is always willing to contribute at whatever level is required – doing so has afforded me ample opportunity to learn and grow.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

  • It’s important to commit to your studies but also, to allow time for the things you enjoy.

  • Ask questions before walking out of each class so that study time is focused.

  • Don’t stress if you don’t get the ATAR you need – there are many alternative paths to university.

What do you plan to do next year/your aspirations?

I plan to go to university and study Clinical Exercise Physiology. My passion for exercise science comes from my background of sport, specifically volleyball.

What have you learnt from your leadership role and how do you plan to use these skills in the future?

As an outgoing school captain, my leadership position has set me in a promising position for future leadership opportunities. I’ve learnt the skills of problem-solving, time management, and group cooperation.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

Value the time you spend with the people around you at school – these times with peers and teachers are limited, so enjoy them while you can. Prioritise your study, if that is something you are passionate about, but remember that it isn’t the end of the world, and it is okay to take some self-care time. On that note, balance is essential to maintaining a healthy wellbeing.

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

As College Captain, I learnt the importance of using everyone’s unique skill sets and how to best apply them within our team for the best outcome. This skill should aid me in the future as an aspiring medical physician. I hope to take these skills from leadership and apply them further in my university and overseas studies in medicine.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

I loved being able to have a positive impact people and to be someone others felt they could go to when they needed support.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

Go for every opportunity offered to you and to always support each other in everything that you do.

Hayden Nelson

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

Throughout the year, I learnt that it is always important to have an end goal in mind and to focus on it regardless of what the year throws at you. As for my personal goal, it is to continue my education at university in 2023 in the hope of becoming an engineer.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

Firstly, my leadership role gave me the opportunity to make a lasting impact on future students. It was my hope to be a role model to everyone and just a friendly face for anyone who wanted to have a chat.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

I found that Year 12 was the most challenging year throughout my past 13 years of school. The fact that this was the ‘ATAR’ year was not the sole reason, but rather the realisation that Year 12 is the final year that I would spend with many of my cohort. For those coming into their senior year, remember that no matter what happens, save some time to have fun with your friends.

What do you plan to do next year/your aspirations?

Study Paramedicine, hopefully at Griffith University.

I have gained a depth of leadership qualities through my role here at Trinity College. One of the biggest is being able to trust my peers and teachers and gain theirs in return. These are skills I will definitely use in my future as a Paramedic.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

I enjoyed so much of this year as a student leader but the sports carnival days, for me, were definite highlights. Having fun with friends and leading my sports house in spirit and sportsmanship was the best.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

Enjoy yourself and have some fun. Time really does fly when in your last year of high school.

What do you plan to do next year/your aspirations?

Next year I hope to be studying Nursing at Griffith University! My aspirations involve finishing a paediatric nursing certificate and nursing degree to be a registered nurse. I also would love to travel over the years to come!

What have you learnt from your leadership role?

To ask others for help. This taught me that although life seems like it’s played by only one person, it’s not. Sometimes you need the assistance and guidance of people around you to be successful. I plan to use this in the future by continuing to help others if they also ask for help. As I too was in their position.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

As a leader I love listening to everyone’s ideas. Sometimes when you sit back and listen to others concepts and thoughts, it usually enhances you own ideas and better the overall result.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

Have fun! Make as many memories as you can because they will last forever.

Go to university and study a double degree of urban planning and science and hopefully find a way to continue to learn and hone my leadership skills.

The importance of a diverse team who work well together and are happy to question and encourage all members within it. The opportunity has allowed me to become more extroverted and meet people I likely wouldn’t have if I weren’t school captain.

What do you enjoy about being a leader?

Learning from the other people around me as I often have the opportunity for develop my skills by learning from other leaders around me.

What is your advice for students going into senior year in 2023?

Study hard but don’t forget to treasure the time you have remaining at high school, it will disappear before you know it.
